The masterminds of great sunglass lenses at Maui Jim do it again. I have been a big fan of Maui Jim for quite awhile and they have now put out a product that cannot be bettered by the competition. I purchased the Maui Jim Kona Rectangle Wrap with the gunmetal-colored frame. When I first put them on, I thought that I was looking through prescription lenses. The new PolarizedPlus technology that Maui Jim uses in all of their lines is quite amazing. Please see my detailed review below:
Grading System A through F
LENSES A+
When it comes to lenses, nobody can match Maui Jim's perfection. If you decide to purchase these sunglasses, you will be amazed by the way the lenses completely block out unwanted glare from the sun and actually improve your sight. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to tell you that UV rays from the sun will harm your eyes over an extended period of time. The Maui Jim lenses block out 100% of the sun's UV rays. As an aside, yesterday I was driving home from work and trying, unsuccessfully I may add, to read the outside temperature on an electric sign about 300 feet away. I put on my Maui Jims and it was clear as day. I would suggest that you visit your local sunglass store and give them a test run. You will be quite impressed.
Another advantage of Maui Jim's lenses is that they are quite durable, especially if you purchase the impact-resistant polycarbonate lenses as I did. I have dropped my glasses onto the concrete many times and still have not scratched them. I often frequent sandy beaches and play with my kids and the Maui Jims hold up just fine. There is no sense in paying big bucks for sunglasses only to have them scratch after wearing them for a short period of time and Maui Jim solves that dilemma by selling a very durable product.
FRAMES: A
I have heard others complain about the style of Maui Jim's frames, however, I think they look quite stylish. My gunmetal frames are almost frame-less being that they are drilled right into the lenses. They seem to just hug my face and it is really hard to tell that they even have a frame at all. In addition, these frames are extremely light. I believe they weigh close to only 11 grams, which is extraordinarily light. This was a huge selling point for me as I hate the feeling of glasses hanging on my ears. Just another example of Maui Jim solving another sunglass dilemma.
Just like the lenses, these frames are quite durable as you can bend them almost completely the opposite direction around the lenses and they will automatically return to the correct form when released. As long as you don't lose them, these sunglasses will last a lifetime.
MISCELLANEOUS: A
If you visit Maui Jim's website - www.mauijim.com, you will be able to do all kinds of different browsing to find the right pair of sunglasses. You can browse by series/collection, face shape, lens color, frame style, or simply pull up all that Maui Jim has to offer all at once. The website is quite informative and answers most questions that you may have.
OVERALL: A
Maui Jim has been able to accomplish what no other sunglasses manufacturer has done to my knowledge. They have developed sunglasses that not only look great, but also protect your eyes to the greatest degree. If you are in the market to buy a new pair of premium sunglasses, I would highly recommend that you give Maui Jim a test drive. I paid $225 for my new Maui Jims.
