Max Factor MAXeye Shadows
Can you really achieve perfect eyes for day or night with just one palette of eye shadow? Max Factor MAXeye Shadows promises you can with a wet or dry application in a multitude of shades with high pigment intensity.
I have a 15 minute makeup routine in the morning which includes a light dusting of eye shadow only to bring definition to my eyes. When night falls and going out on the town I like to go a bit more dramatic. So are these wet/dry applications really what they are chalked up to be?
I tend to lean towards neutral colors that compliment my skin tone. I didnt have a problem finding a multitude of colors with Max Factors MAXeye Shadows. There are dozens of different shade options. Each 2 inch box contains three shadows (applicator sold separately) for around 4 dollars a case.
The case is thin, square, and black with a transparent flip lid. Each shadow lays side by side, 1-2-3. Dont worry about the color running together since they sit so close, this shadow doesnt move within the case, wet or dry.
The colors palette I chose, Cocoa Crazy, includes a defining brown, a highlighting buff, and illuminating pinkish tan. I had no trouble finding shades that I loved!

Application was easy, an each color is easily blendable in order to get the look you want when dry. Wet, shades are very dramatic and stay put. However watch for creasing when using the wet application. Depending how much you use, flaking can occur. Dry application is a cinch, but the color just cant make it throughout the day without touching it up. However which ever application method you use, you do get true to the box color. A quick sweep of a shadow brush for dry app or a sponge type applicator for wet application helps you take control of placement.
The shadow clings to the applicator when dry, so there is no loose color floating anywhere but where youve placed it. This is great for those of us who wear lenses or whose eyes are sensitive.
The shadows will outlive their shelf life even if you wear them daily. This makes these shadows a great bargain if you find colors you like and wear them daily.
Removal is a snap. I use Estee Lauder makeup remover and what hadnt worn off, was removed with a sweep of a tissue.
My overall impression of these color combos-I wouldnt buy another compact. I tend to lean towards higher end products, but even lower end shadows can out perform these trios. Wet, you get the dramatic look and hopefully only need them to last several hours, not hours on end. They just cant withstand the TIME test. Since they crease and possibly flake these could make your big night out on the town a big makeup mistake Dry they go on beautifully, and the color is true. However after several hours in normal weather conditions the color fades. All that is left behind is the shimmer from the accent colors.
The price is great if you want to try a new colors and dont mind the lack of staying power. You get a nice selection of shades, from extremely dramatic to the bare naturals. These work great for sensitive eyes or lenses wearers. Application and removal is simple, and the three shade presentation keeps packaging to a bare minimum. The are readily available at most discount & drugstores in every shade trio.
Im just not that impressed. I am also not too disappointed, after all youre paying around a dollar or so for one shade, so although they dont do exactly what MAX claims they arent exactly the WORST eye shadow you could find on market shelves.
