nursesonya's Full Review: Max Factor Pan Cake Water Activated Makeup Tan No....
Okay, I love makeup and in these tough economic times, I had a tough time justifying buying the expensive foundation that I usually wear and decided to try a less expensive alternative. I found Max Factor Pan Cake in Tan #1 and decided to give it a try.
First off, it is not like any other makeup I've ever tried. It comes in a plastic dish with a clear lid, kind of like a pressed powder. When I ordered it on-line I also ordered the Max Factor makeup sponge to use with it, which was the best idea, since it comes without any instructions. Not the most attractive presentation, but the price can't be beat.
Tan #1 is a complete misrepresentation of what this makeup is. It is not tan...I am quite fair, though not porcelain by any means (pale skin with blue eyes, brown hair). This makeup is just one smidge lighter than my skin when applied. It looks about 2 shades darker in the package or on-line so I'm not sure any of the shades would work for anyone except us fair skinned gals.
The sponge should be moistened to more than damp but not wet, the sponge is then swirled over the pan cake and applied to the skin. If you get it too wet, it's too cakey, if it's too dry, it won't come off the cake at all. It does take some practice but if you have smooth skin, it's a great foundation. After a couple of practice tries, it worked great and I have loved it since that day.
If you have acne prone skin, this will not break you out; however, because it's very light, it doesn't provide enough coverage to hide any but the most insignificant flaws. It's more of a base for those with good skin to start with. My daughter has acne prone skin and she likes this but she does need to use concealer over top. The skin, with this makeup, gets a smooth, matte finish that is the perfect base for your blush or highlighter. Your skin looks like porcelain (if the shade is right for you).
