I played the Maxfli Tour Patriot golf balls this past week and really liked them. Here are a few reasons that I believe you might enjoy chasing these beautys around your favorite golf course this weekend.
1. Maxfli makes it. For as long as I can remember, I've always been partial to playing a Titleist product. In years past, I believed there were really significant differences in the quality offered by various golf ball manufacturers. More recently, I've come to realize that the general quality of products has improved. When I compared the Maxfli Revolution to top Titleist golf balls, I found they measured up very well-- very well. Ever since, I've made it a point to experiment and try various balls. I've always had positive experiences whenever I try a new Maxfli ball.
2. Ball go far! The Tour Patriot is a 100 compression ball, making it a distance ball. I know that finding the ball is at least as important as hitting it a few extra yards, but we duffers do not live by handicap alone. Sometimes hitting that perfect tee shot can help mitigate an otherwise frustrating round.
3. For a distance ball, the Patriot is playable. Even when we golfers hear the sweet song of the long ball sirens, we still need a ball that's not rock hard and almost unplayable approaching the green. This golf ball has a cover made of Ionomer. I don't have any idea what Ionomer is but it gives the ball a slick and somewhat soft feel that helps with the skill shots. ( and it sounds cool--I-ON-O-Muuurr .)
4. Price. Price is an important consideration to me. I'll play a high priced ball at times, but when I spot a dozen Maxfli's for under twenty bucks; I'm a happy guy. I've found that many of the golf balls at this price point perform just fine for the everyday golfer. My Scottish ancestors invented the game and I feel as if they would approve of ol' MacStrategery's frugality!
5. Durability. I find the durability of these golf balls to be quite satisfactory. The Ionomer outer cover is a very slick surface and it tends to get marginally scuffed after repeated hits. This probably has a slight negative effect on the distance a shot travels. I'm not that concerned about any small effect but, if you are concerned about very slight scuffs; take this into account. I found the Patriot held up very well for my needs.
6. It putts well. Have you ever played a rock hard distance ball and found yourself rolling putts several feet by the hole ? Me too. All that fun of outdriving your golfing buddies can evaporate in a fit of three putts. Well, with the Patriot , you and I stand a chance. It's not like putting a buttery balata but the ball does have a consistent feel that you can putt. Additionally the ball aligns well and rolls true.
As you can see, this golf ball offers quite a lot at a very reasonable price. I think that it is a wonderful way to go if you are just out for a casual round of golf. The serious golfer may want more in a golf ball but, for those of us just out for pure fun, the Maxfli Tour Patriot is a good ball to play.
