| maggsmomm's Full Review: Maximum Strength Cramp Relief Pamprin |
I have battled with cramps for years due to a condition I have that literally lays me out for a week a month. Im too lazy to go back to the doctor to get my prescription medication refilled but no so much that I would run down to my local Wal*Mart and grab a bottle of Pamprin Maximum Cramp Relief Menstrual Pain Formula.
Packaging
A bottle of 16 caplets comes in a very small bottle with a tamper resistant seal and a child proof lid. The label consists of a very small logo with mostly product indication and warnings.
Boasts
*For temporary relief of symptoms accompanying premenstrual syndrome such as cramps, headache, irritability, backache and mild to moderate aches and pains. To reduce the temporary excess water frequently associated with the premenstrual period. Pamprin is most effective if taken at the first sign of discomfort, usually a few days before a period.
Product
The tablet are oblong, white with Pamprin written across them in blue.
It contains three relievers-Two for pain and one as a diuretic. Acetaminophen & Magnesium Salicylate are directed for pain. Pamabrom is a diuretic to help reduce water retention. If you are allergic to aspirin then this is not the product for you.
About 30 minutes after taking it I could feel results, the cramping lessened but was still present. I was however able to get up off the couch and get dressed, which is no small feat for me when I have bad cramps.
The effects lasted well over 4 hours to my surprise. I think the combination of the medications is what makes it so powerful in pain relief.
I still had some back discomfort, and my cramps were clearly present as the smile I usually present was exchanged for a grimace, but it was to a lesser degree than without any medication what so ever.
However after taking it a few days I still felt bloated and was maintaining a steady retention of water weight gain. The diuretic just isn't strong enough. Drinking plenty of water is key when retaining water, although it may sound like an oxy moron. The more intake of water your body has the more likely it will be your body will rid itself of it.
If you are taking any medication you should always drink plenty of water. Caffeinated beverages only make cramping worse and can make you dehydrated in as little as 8 hours.
Of course for over the counter purposes this works as well as Midol products if not better.
This contains no caffeine so it didn't make me irritable or speedy. It just relieved some of the pain and helped me go about my daily routine.
Keep in mind I have a diagnose disease that makes cramping worse for me, so I do trust this product would be suitable for those with mild discomfort instead of severe as in my case.
Use
2 tablets every 4-6 hours as needed. Do not exceed 8 caplets in a 24 hour period or as directed by doctor. Drink a full glass of water with each does.
Price & Availability
You can find Pamprin products at most drugstores, and discount stores such as Wal*Mart, Target, K*mart, Etc.; starting at 3.99 a bottle for 16 count & up for the larger 32 count bottles.
Ingredients
Acetaminophen 250 mg; Pamabrom 25 mg; Magnesium Salicylate 250mg;
Warnings
*Individuals with continuing severe or debilitating symptoms accompanying premenstrual syndrome should consult their physician. Pregnancy and Lactation: Should not be given to women who are pregnant or who are nursing. Children: Not recommended for children less than 12 years old. Keep safely out of reach of children. This package contains sufficient medication to seriously harm a child. If you are aspirin sensitive you should not use his product.
The Verdict?
I really think its a great product and is far less expensive than other name brand products that contain more ingredients and do less to relieve discomfort.
The amount of relief is dependent of course on the amount of pain you have. For severe pain I recommend seeing a physician, but for moderate cramps, water gain, and tension this is a wonderful product with no side effects.
