joylein's Full Review: Maybelline Garnier Fructis Style Brilliantine Shin...
With the summer fast approaching, I dread the heat and humidity that tends to wreak havoc on my fine, flyaway hair. The sun, salt, and humid conditions of Virginia's coastal plain can turn my locks into straw in no time, robbing my hair of its softness and shine.
I am constantly searching for hair products that claim to infuse hair with diamond-like brilliance, softness, and shine while restoring much-needed moisture. I am willing to pay a fair amount for such products if they work, but I always love a bargain!
Garnier Fructis Brilliante Shine Glistening Drops is a product that I discovered upon a recent trip to my neighborhood grocery store. I had recently run out of a similar product of a different brand, and decided I would try something new. Plus, at only $3.99 USD for two fluid ounces, I considered it a pretty decent buy and worthy of a try.
I have used Garnier products in the past and have been fairly impressed, so I was hoping that Garnier Fructis Glistening Drops would live up to the standards of the other products I've tried.
I am happy to say that after having used Garnier Fructis Glistening Drops for nearly a month, I am impressed with the results. This product could help tame the frizzies and flyaways that arrive with the heat of the summer sun!
The Product and Packaging
Garnier Fructis Brilliante Shine Glistening Drops (Whew! Long name, huh?) comes in a sleek light green transparent bottle with a green and clear pump top. The green bottle with its white lettering does not necessarily stand out, but it is immediately recognizable as being from the Garnier line of hair and beauty products.
The product itself is a clear liquid with no sticky or greasy feel. It actually feels smooth and silky and is very lightweight. Glistening Drops have a peachy, fruity smell that seems to be the signature scent of Garnier Fructis products. I really like the scent, as it is pleasant and not at all overpowering. The "fruit micro-oils" that are the trademark of Fructis products are likely the source of the fresh and fruity scent.
The product is for all hair types from coarse to fine and may be used on damp or dry hair. The two fluid ounces of this silky smooth serum seem to last forever. It only takes a couple drops to create a smooth style free from frizz and fly-aways.
My Experience
According to the bottle Garnier Fructis Brilliante Shine Glistening Drops is "a new generation of styling product with fruit micro-oils that infuses hair with brilliant shine for long-lasting in control style". I would say that this product easily lives up to such claims.
This product is not a gel or a cream, but a smooth serum that seemed to glide through my hair when I first applied it. It seems to be very light. It does have a slightly oily feel, and leaves my hair a little too soft and a tad oily if over-applied. It is obviously meant to be used sparingly. A little goes a long way!
My fine hair is somewhat wavy and tends to get very frizzy when heat and humidity sets in. Blowdrying my hair each morning before work has also taken a toll on my hair, leaving it thirsty for moisture.
Each morning for almost a month I have applied Garnier Fructis Glistening Drops to my towel-dried hair before applying any other hair products. My fine hair tangles easily, and this product is a great detangler! I then style as usual with my blow dryer and a round brush. When my hair is dry, it always seems to have a nice shine and it feels super soft and sleek!
I have also used this product on dry hair, and find that it smooths stray strands quite well when used sparingly. Hair has a lustrous shine and tends to reflect light beautifully when using this product. It is great to use for a touch up later in the day to tame frizz.
If you have fine hair like mine, I would not recommend applying this product to the roots of your hair, as it may make hair too soft and lacking in body. Garnier recommends that the product be applied from mid-length to ends. If applied properly, it will not weigh your hair down.
Overall, I found this Garnier Fructis Glistening Drops to be quite a bargain. The price was reasonable, and it is a great product that lives up to its claims in terms of performance.
What's in This Stuff?
Garnier Fructis Glistening Drops does contain natural fruit micro-oils such as apricot and avocado oils according to the ingredients. That accounts for the fresh, fruity peach-like scent.
It contains dimethicone, fragrance, limonene and a few other ingredients with which I am not familiar. I believe dimethicone is the shine-enhancing ingredients in this product.
Those looking for an all-natural hair product may be disappointed, as this product does not make any claims in terms of being all natural.
I have a fairly sensitive skin and scalp, and I have not had any adverse reactions to this product or any of its ingredients that I am aware of.
The Final Say...
Garnier Fructis Brilliante Shine Glistening Drops is a fantastic product as well as a great value for the price. I have found that it has improved the texture of my hair, leaving it softer and shinier. My hair really gleams when I use this stuff.
After having used much more expensive shine enhancing products, and I honestly feel Garnier Glistening Drops gives them a run for the money.
