Maybelline Gloss Twist Lip Shine

Written: Jan 29 '03 (Updated Feb 11 '03)
Pros:Nice shine, long lasting for a gloss.
Cons:Not much in a tube.
The Bottom Line: Although quite an average good gloss the applicator and packaging make it extra nice.

After trying- and absolutely hating- Bonne Bell's Lip D'votion which comes in the same exact applicator form, I decided to give Maybelline's version a try.

The packaging- Maybelline Gloss Twist Lip Shine comes in a tube with a small white/clear brush on the end (to apply with). On the other end is a twisting knob used to push the lip-gloss. The entire tube is clear with shiny silver writing. The tube is about five inches long. It holds .04 Fl. Oz. of gloss.

The product- the gloss is quite thick, but no uncomfortable. There is absolutely no scent to it. Now is usually where I put all the info from the Maybelline website. However as I cannot seem to find ANY info on this product, I can't. I swapped on makeupalley for this lip-gloss (it came from Sweden) so I don't even know the selling price...I will ask her and see if I can find out. *Sigh* I also have no ingredients since Maybelline products never do have them on them...

What I think- Like I said, I tried and hated, Bonne Bell's lip D'votion lip-gloss. The reason being that the gloss was way too thick and sticky (no to mention the sickening sugary scent). However I loved the applicator so I decided to try Maybelline's version hoping it would be a little better, and plus I’ve been look for a nice clear gloss. The colour I own is "Clearly Turning". The gloss is clear.

When the gloss is new you have to twist the bottom knob (I had to 6-7 times) until the gloss starts appearing in the tiny applicator brush. (The instructions read: Twist until colour appears.) After that you simply sweep the gloss unto your lips and twist again (only a couple of times) to send more to the brush. Of course as my lip-gloss is clear, it is a bit hard to tell how much gloss is in the brush. Once the gloss is out- there is no getting it back in.

The gloss can be applied lightly for a lighter shine or heavier for a shinier shine (:-D). The gloss is slightly thick but not still comfortable. The gloss and shine both last quite a while (I’m wearing this as I type- Its lasted over an hour now). I like that there is no scent to the product, a lot of glosses have a horrible sugary scent (::cough:: Bonne Bell ::cough cough::). I'm sure this gloss is available in tinted colours if you prefer.

I have found a slight problem with this gloss applicator- seeing as it has its own brush you cannot wear the gloss over lipstick without getting it dirty- and it doesn't seem to come clean to easily. It is hard to use a seperate lip brush because most of the gloss with stick to the tubes brush.

Where can you buy it- Thanks to Bops_mom for the info. These are limited edition that they bring out from time to time with new colours. She bought hers for around $5.50.

Overall- A nice gloss with a clever and handy applicator. Still slightly average however
