Pros: long lasting, but only because it's so sticky gross
Cons: goopy, gooey, messy, cheap applicator
The Bottom Line: I found it impossible to work with this gloss. I never could get it to look good. Too gooey!

As a bonafide lipstick addict, I will try anything by any company—long wearing, moisturizing, glazes, glosses, sticks—you name it and I can guarantee that it’s been in my makeup bag at least once.
The hard part is getting me to become a repeat buyer. I like switching to glosses in the summer months, so last year I bought a tube of Maybelline’s Lip Polish. The colors all looked so pretty in their packaging, but I finally decided on mauve. It looked like a light rosey brown, which is my personal choice of lip color. It was even on sale to boot at about $3.00.
Just one application of this gunk told me that I was probably not going to become a repeat buyer of Maybelline’s Lip Polish. I hate cheap wand applicators because they tend to be poorly padded. This makes even application very difficult and I’ve also scraped my lips on numerous occasions. Cheap applicators tend to have the sharp plastic edge barely covered by the padding and you don’t know you’re about to stab your lip until it’s too late. Sounds minor, but it actually hurts a lot!
The gloss itself was very goopy and sticky. It felt like slathering tar across my mouth. Between the cheap applicator and the gooey gloss, I found it impossible to create an even look. Some parts of my mouth were darker, thicker, and glossier than others. The gloss also bled into the skin around my mouth. I used my finger to smooth things out and just made an even bigger mess. Now I had a goopy, sticky finger that only two hand washings with extra-strength soap would remove. How in the hell was I going to get this stuff off of my lips?
I decided to go on with my day and wore Maybelline’s Lip Polish to work anyway. Since the gloss is the consistency of tar it has some serious staying power. I simply felt self-conscious wearing this stuff. It didn’t feel good and I know it didn’t look good. Midday, I finally scrubbed the stuff off. My lips were actually sore from the work it took to remove this gunk. Maybe turpentine would have done the job better.
I still kept trying to use this gloss for weeks afterward. I would apply a drop on my bottom lip and then spread it out with my finger. That didn’t work. I tried wiping the wand off first to remove the excess, hoping that would provide smoother coverage. No dice.
Maybelline’s Lip Polish finally got tossed in the trash can. I couldn’t take it anymore. There is no way I can recommend this gloss to any woman. It’s simply too thick and gooey.
I wish epinions had Avon’s Lip Glaze as a product listing. Now this is a gloss I can stand behind! Perfect consistency, great applicator, and great price. Berry Cool is my favorite color. I love this gloss so much that I’ve gone through about ten tubes since Avon debuted it a little over a year ago. And as an added bonus: It tastes like cotton candy!
Stay away from Maybelline’s Lip Polish. Buy yourself some Avon Lip Glaze instead. You’ll thank me for it.
