A few months ago in the mail I received Maybelline’s three latest products from their Pure line. I must have entered a contest hoping to win a trip somewhere or a whole bunch of goodies; instead I won Maybelline’s latest offerings. Today I will be reviewing the concealer I received.
In my time I’ve only found one concealer that is absolutely perfect and that is MAC Select Moisturecover. Everything else is just average at best.
Maybelline Pure Concealer comes in a unique design. It looks just like an automatic eyeliner, it is pale blue and slim. The end is marked with the particular shade. The tip is covered with a clear lid. Each pencil holds a tiny 0.009 ounces of product.
Maybelline’s Pure line of products is targeted towards oily/acne prone skin. What is great about it is that it supposedly consists 50% of water and that it is Dermatologist tested and is safe for sensitive skin. This does not feature an SPF.
I probably would have never purchased this myself, just because I don’t have problem skin, and since this product contains 2% salicylic acid it may be too drying for me. But every once in a while my skin will act up and I will need to treat it with something. So I figured I’d see how this works.
This product is available in just three shades: Light, Medium and Dark. I received Light and it is too light for me. The medium shade looks a bit too yellow. And the dark is obviously on the dark side. For me an ideal shade would be between Light and Medium as I would assume lots of others would find their match in between other shades.
To use, just turn dial on top until product comes up at the tip, same as an automatic eyeliner works. I’ve used this to cover and heal a few minor zits I had. It is so easy to use; just go over the problem area with the tip. The tip is solid and doesn’t break off easily. It is so obvious I used this, unless I go over it with separate powder or another concealed. It doesn’t really blend in; it just sits on top of the skin. And on top of it the Light shade is so off.
A good thing is that this is a light formula, so it doesn’t cake and layer on my zit. It is also weightless, I can’t feel it on my skin at all. But only about a half hour later it’s completely gone. It simply disappeared, but my zit was still there.
This product has not helped the condition of my skin in any way, at least it hasn’t worsened it either. Hasn’t dried it out and hasn’t caused me more acne.
I’ve noticed Clinique has a product identical to Maybelline Pure Concealer called: Clinique Acne Solutions Concealing Stick. I have never used it; it just looks identical to Maybelline’s version.
Although Maybelline Pure Concealer comes in cute and unique packaging, it simply is not a good product. There are only 3 shades available and they are not at all similar, which is good and bad. The concealer doesn’t conceal for a decent amount of time, but just disappears. And on top of it does nothing for zits or acne, since it doesn’t stay on the skin it cant possibly treat it.

This product is available at drugstores, drugstore.com and ulta.com. Its average price is $5.99.
