| daratariq's Full Review: Maybelline Pure Makeup Shine-Free Foundation with ... |
As a black woman, finding the right makeup is a nerve splitting endeavor. We come in so many different shades and add to that numerous undertones. I had almost given up on foundation when I discovered Maybelline Pure.
I'm in grad school and can't afford the custom colors they offer at expensive makeup counters so I'm stuck with the aisles in department stores. I also have oily skin that is prone to breakouts. I was directed by my dermatologist to NEVER use liquid foundation again.
I had an important engagement and wanted to look my best. So I went against doctor's advice and my own better judgement and high-tailed it to the makeup aisle. I looked for quite some time with crappy products and corpse-like colors making me swear.
I read that Maybelline is 50% water and rejoiced. Then I chose a shade. I picked the darkest they make (Dark #3, cocoa) and hoped for the best. It went on easily and had good coverage considering how lightweight it feels. I thought it looked pretty good, but wanted the best friend test.
I asked her that evening "Did I choose the right shade of makeup?" and she said, "You're wearing makeup?" I knew I'd found the product for me and have been wearing it daily. I hope they never stop making it, because it's all I'll ever use. (I've since gotten my dermatologist's approval, just remember to cleanse well)
Now, there are some down sides: it rubs off easily. Be careful of collars, winter scarves, etc. Also, if you're extremely oily, the shinefree part is short-lived. I'm currently looking for a good oil absorbing pressed or loose powder to cover the foundation. I bought blotting sheets to help control oil before I realized the brown paper towel they use in my school's bathroom is similar and works better.
I usually reapply to my t-zone after about 4 hours (around lunch). And I'd rather reapply a good product than to have a crappy product last all day.
I use my fingertips to apply and found that a latex glove works best. (easy clean up, just toss. and oil/lotion on my fingers doesn't affect my make-up).
hope this helps.
