Pros: Neat idea.
Cons: Pump issues. Color matching issues.
The Bottom Line: My recommendation all comes down to one thing - the pump dispenser. It's because of this, I have to give the thumbs down.

Confessions of a Regretful Foundation-Swapper
Why? Why? Do I stray away from the one true love of my life?!
What This Is
This is Maybelline's latest cosmetic release - Superstay Silky Foundation.
For approximately $9.99 you get a 1 fl oz. plastic bottle where half of it is filled with foundation and the other half is filled with a primer. The foundation is available in fifteen different colors (mine - LIGHT). The primer is the same shade irregardless (pearly-white).
Superstay Silky has a clear cap which is fairly easy to remove. You dispense the foundation and primer by pushing down on the white pump. I do have to hand it to Maybelline - they did think of a couple of small things which make for better packaging. For instance, the white pump is angled so that your "push" action gets some friction during execution.
Maybelline - who really hasn't started to advertise this yet - promises that you'll get 16 hours of flawless coverage - with the added benefit of SPF12 sunscreen.
The Test
Okay girls. Here's what I (generically) look for in foundations. Here are my answers as it applies to this product.
* Is it easy to apply? yes
* Does it NOT dry out my skin? yes
* Does it creep into every crevice and wrinkle? no
* Is it long-lasting? yes
* Does it come off on my cell phone on the very first phone call?! a little smudging
* Does the color compliment my red/blue overtones? not as well as it should
* Does it work well with my skin care products? yes
* Does it clog my pores? no
* Is it easy to remove? yes
squeal I love trying new products! The first time I tried this, it was a Monday morning. After my usual morning routine, I attempted to dispense. It takes a couple of practice pumps before any of the product comes out. When it does, you get a pretty even representation of both the foundation and the primer.
Although Maybelline says you can apply this with your fingertips - I'm all about the brush. I found that my brush worked well with it and that although the color wasn't an exact match for me - it worked well enough. The color I selected - LIGHT (1) - is the absolute fairest on the spectrum and it was a little surprising that it was darker than I had been expecting. I've used Maybelline foundation products before and this shade has never seemed as dark as it is now.
Superstay Silky Foundation has a great look and feel to it. The coverage is somewhere around the medium mark with matte effects yet still, there seems to be some kind of skin brightening element to it. No sparkles :). When the product dried, I had a very much appreciated, air-brushed look.
For those of you who are scent-sensitive, it barely has any scent to it - very light - can't even describe it as anything more than floral - but then - I'm stretching for an analogy there.
By lunch time, I was anxious to check things out. I hadn't applied any concealer that day, so I worried how I would look - especially under my eyes. The good news was that it didn't enhance my existing wrinkles/dark circles. The bad news is that, it didn't do anything to hide them.
About 15 hours later - when I had arrived home from work - I noticed that the foundation did a fairly good job of staying consistent throughout the day. It was easy to remove and I didn't have any issues with clogged pores or breakouts.
I continued using this for a week and instead of loving it, I ended up resenting it. Why? For two reasons.
First, the pump - it's - well troublesome. If you don't keep the plastic cap over the top and/or if some reason, you don't keep the area where both the primer/foundation come out of - free of obstacles - then dispensing the combo becomes difficult and sometimes impossible. I had occasions where I could get foundation out, but not primer. Or both came out, but not at the expected ratio. This was frustrating.
My second issue - the color was just not what it needed to be for my fair skin. Although I could live with it - that wouldn't be fair to me, now would it?! Maybelline has some 'splainin' to do on why their lightest shade is this dark.
In The End
I'm not throwing it out - I'll use it as a back-up in case I run out of my normal stuff. Will I buy it again? Nope. Too high maintenance - not enough payback in the 'matches my skin shade' arena.
A special note to those with oily/combination skin: although it's not advertised, I think that this primer stuff is meant to add in an extra oomph of moisturizer. Since I have dry skin and didn't have issue with dryness or flakes - you might want to try a sample of this first before you commit your $10 up front.
