Pros:Feels great, excellent finish.
Cons:Not too funky for nighttime.
The Bottom Line: One of the best lipsticks on the market... if you're in the market for a smooth, creamy, matte finish that is fairly long-lasting.
I just have to start by saying that I've been buying Maybelline's Wear n' Go lipcolor since it was first introduced a little over a year ago. Now... at long last, I can write an Epinion on it!!! (It was only recently added to the Epinions database, but I'll save that for another editorial.)
Why Buy This Lip Color?
Aside from the fact that I have an addiction to lipsticks and buy anything new I see, I have to admit that I was especially drawn to this stuff because of its celeb sponsor, Buffy... er, Sarah Michelle Gellar. Buffy sets the standard for all-things-cool in my book, and if it's good enough for her, it's gotta be good enough for me, right?
The only thing I couldn't figure out is the name. Wear n' Go?? As opposed to what? Wear n' Stop? I quite frequently have worn other brands of lipstick and... gone. Oh well. Corny name aside, it's an excellent lipstick.
Colors
Wear n' Go apparently comes in 36 colors, which is an excellent selection. I have yet to find a store, however, that carries all 36 shades. Don't let that discourage you. Every store I've gone into has carried enough shades to make me stand there for thirty minutes trying to decide which one I should go for next. Most of the colors are classic as opposed to trendy, making them better for day than for night. My personal favorites are Go Fawn (a brownish pink), and Go Brick (a medium berry shade with a hint of brown.)
Okay, so this has nothing really to do with the lipstick, but why do the names of these colors make me think of cartoon characters and super heroes? Why did they have to go and put the word "go" in front of every name? It brings to mind Go Go gadget... Go Go power rangers... Go Go Toasted Pink..... huh?
Texture
The texture of Wear n' Go is probably the best of any lipstick I've ever tried. Yes, it's that good. It goes on like suede. It's smooth and creamy-- not too thick but it's not at all sheer, either. Most of the colors have a nice, even, matte finish. None of the shades are shiny, and only a few seem to have a bit of sparkle (or frost). The finish is so smooth that applying it takes no time at all, and I've never needed a lipliner to make the coverage look even. (Maybe this is where that whole Wear n' Go comes into play.)
Wearability
This is supposed to be long-wearing lipcolor and, to a certain extent, it is. The deeper shades tend to last longer than the lighter and frostier ones. My Go Brick shade looks pretty good for 3-4 hours, while my Go Toasted Pink (a frosty pink) only lasts an hour or two at best. While Wear n' Go does not have all-day staying power, it is a lot more moisturizing than most of the other long-wearing brands. I don't know about you, but I would personally choose a moisturizing semi-long-lasting lipstick over one of those super-drying extra-long-lasting brands any day! Plus, touching it up frequently is not really a nuisance because it's so easy to apply.
Packaging
Standard square tube. Nothing spectacular or revolutionary here.
Price
You can generally find Wear n' Go for about $5 unless you're at a pricey drug store. I've collected about 10 shades of this stuff (I'm a lipstick junkie), by waiting until Wal-Mart or KMart puts it on sale for $4, then using one of the $1 coupons frequently found in fashion magazines. One of the best lipsticks ever, for $3!! Now, who can argue with that?
Overall
Buffy did not steer me wrong. I love Wear n' Go lipstick, and I really haven't felt compelled to buy any other brand in a long time. That's saying a lot, trust me.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I just reapplied my lipstick, which means it's time for me to go.
