I really like glittery things, so when Maybelline Wet Shine Diamonds Nail Polish came out (as well as the whole Wet Shine Diamonds line), it caught my attention. This is similar to the Wet Shine products, except that this polish has a glittery effect to it.
I bought this polish around Christmas time, because I wanted to add a little festivity to the appearance of my nails (without being too flashy)!
Packaging
This nail polish comes in your average type glass nail polish container, and holds 0.5 fl oz of polish. The front label states the name of the product, as well as this is a wet look nail color.
The back label has some warnings (Keep from heat or flame, Shake well), and has a ton of ingredients. Kind of scary that so many chemicals go into something like this.
I did have a problem with the polish/brush wand separating from the cap, but Im not sure if it was because I had left the polish in the car in below-freezing temperatures. Either way, I put the cap back on, and the cap and brush seem to be staying together.
Shades
There are a total of 14 shades, which range from pinks to more purples, to even a turquoise. These shades are listed on their website.
I chose Sparkling Champagne, because it is a more subtle pink that agrees with my skin tone.
As I mentioned, the polish contains little sparkling, glitter-like bits.
The Nail Polish
The container reads, Shake well, but it is usually better to roll the container or agitate it without actually shaking, so that it is mixed without making it bubbly.
I usually also apply a base coat, which helps the polish to stay on a little nicer. They actually suggest this on their website as well, which is nice.
The polish isnt too thick, and is more on the watery side. It is easy to apply, but make sure you dont have too much on the brush, otherwise it gets a little too drippy.
This is fairly quick-drying, as I didnt have too much of a problem with waiting around for the polish to set.
Appearance
I was concerned that, because this is a glittery nail polish, that it would have that rough look to it. With other glitter nail polishes, the shiny bits are usually on the larger side, and make the surface of the nail a little bit rough.
However, this stuff is great! No problem at all! It is fairly smooth. Not quite as smooth as other nail polishes that dont have bits of glitter in them, but still quite flat.
The great thing about this Maybelline Wet Shine Diamonds Nail Polish is that you can apply varying amounts for different effects. One layer of polish had more of a sheer effect, which I thought was really nice. This was a subtle bit of shine for my nails (using their subtle pink shade). As I added more applications, the appearance was stronger and more obvious, so I was able to make it come out looking different.
Durability & Polish Removal
This polish didnt last particularly long, but wasnt short-lived either. It also depended how many coats of it that I used, because just one coat lasted a little longer than several coats.
No matter how long I had worn the polish, or how chipped it had become, it had to be vigorously rubbed off. I seemed to have little bits of sparkle stuck to my nail beds, which required a little extra work to be removed.
Animal Testing
As I mentioned earlier, there are lots of chemical ingredients that go into this product. Maybelline is a part of the LOreal company, which I read does test on animals, however their website says differently.
(Check out this link: http://www.peta.org/mall/cc/cctest.html)
Q: Does MAYBELLINE test nail products on animals?
A: We are happy to confirm that the L'Oréal USA, Inc. group of companies, which include MAYBELLINE, Lancôme, Redken, Garnier, Ralph Lauren, Biotherm, L'Oréal, Helena Rubinstein and Kiehl's has carried out no animal testing on its range of products since 1989.
Im glad to read that this is the case. (http://www.maybelline.com/qanda/nails.html)
Personally, I dont like using products that arent so natural and have so many scary chemicals in them. Usually I try to stay away from things like this. Sometimes what I do is buy a healthy nail polish (check out health food stores for much safer nail polishes), and use it as a base coat before applying the second polish.
Price & Where to Purchase
I got my Maybelline Wet Shine Diamonds Nail Polish for $3.59 at Genovese out on Long Island. Ive seen this line of products in Target and other stores as well, for about the same price.

Overall
I usually try to go for more subtle nail polishes for my fingers, so it was one of the shades of the Maybelline Wet Shine Diamonds Nail Polish that caught my eye. I am glad that I tried this nail polish, because it is versatile in terms of creating varying levels of color strength, as well as giving a little extra to the appearance of my nails.
I think that Maybelline Wet Shine Diamonds Nail Polish gives a nice boost to my nails. I love glittery nail polish, but this isnt like those other polishes that have larger, chunky bits of glitter in them. I get glitter while also having a bit of gloss. This is a subtle, un-gaudy approach to nail polish. For lack of better words, I like this stuff!
