We brought this refrigerator in May of 2006. We were building a house and I had researched a lot of refrigerators. I mainly wanted this refrigerator because it had the french doors, bottom freezer and the ice maker. This was one of the first companies to produce one.
I do agree that if you aren't paying attention and you move your cup away it will dispense more ice than needed and you will be picking up ice from the floor! The ice maker doesn't produce as much ice as I would like. We seem to do ok when it is just the four of us, but if we have a party we know that we have to pick up a bag of ice or we are going to run out before the first group finishes filling their cups!
The refrigerator part can hold A LOT of food. I especially like the full width pull out drawer that accomodates large deli plates or whatever else you might need to store in there. I also like the "elevator shelf". It comes in handy when you need just a little more space you can just roll it up or down without taking everything off the shelf to move it. Also the slideout shelves are nice too. The only time I tend to fill it up is when we are having a get together or around the holidays.
The freezer is also a nice size. I really love the upper baskets that roll back and forth, making it easy to see what all I have. Again, I have yet to fill it on normal use. It can hold quite a bit of stuff. It is also nice to have the freezer down at a lower level for the kids when they want ice cream!
The filter for the refrigerator is quite spendy, but aren't they all? Considering how long you can use it, it does make sense.
The only problem we have had with it and it was a big problem. Happened last November. We had had the fridge for 18 months and it just went out. They had to replace the main board. It was a huge inconvience since we were having a friend of ours 40th birthday and I was picking up the need to be refrigeratored cake that was costing a small fortune!! It took our service person 5 days to get it fixed. Needless to say we had to purchase another smaller fridge to put in our garage. Because not only did I have the birthday cake, I had just went shopping for Thanksgiving dinner and I couldn't let it all go to waste. If you purchase at Lowes, as we did, DEFINITELY pay the extra X amount of $ to get the extended warranty. You always hope that you won't have problems, but these days it isn't worth it taking that chance. We were so thankful that we did. Lowes reimbursed us for the food loss up to $250. It is a really good program.
We went with the stainless steel finish and I have no regrets about that. It is extremely easy to clean. Yes it gets fingerprints on it, but doesn't all stainless steel products? I clean mine once a month and it still looks brand new!
So overall, even with the problem we had, which was a big one. I would still recommend this product to everyone. It has been a great refrigerator and I have no regrets buying it.
