| craivios's Full Review: Maytag MDB7600A Jetclean® II 24 in. Built-in ... |
I got a Maytag when we moved into our house 16 years ago. We chose one because most dishwashers were supposed to last 10 years and Maytag's and Kitchenaid's lifespan were 20 years.
I cursed the longevity as the years went on. The noise really bothered me and I longed for a quieter machine. We often ran the dishwasher at night right before we went to bed. The master bedroom is on the opposite side of our house from the kitchen. Even with all the doors closed, we could still hear it running as we were trying to sleep. Pity my poor children because their bedrooms were closer.
I did not have a dishwasher in my other house, so it is difficult to say how well the JetClean II cleans when compared to other machines. I always rinsed the dishes before loading them, which seemed redundant. It was too bad I could not use the machine for the rinsing. When our dishwasher's knob broke and the belt kept falling off, it was finally time for a new machine.
Having said all of this, I looked for quiet operation and a rinse hold option. I did not want to be a repeat buyer of a Maytag, but when I checked out Consumer Reports, they were one of the top brands. We could have bought a cheaper model but my husband said they are just that - cheap. I knew what he meant. It is hard to buy an appliance, take it home to use it, find you do not like it, then get a refund. I read Epinions and saw some negative comments on the three arm types. I did some comparisons on the Maytag site. I honed in on the Quiet Series 300. It was touted as the quietest ever and it even had a Rinse Only cycle. I was sold.
Needless to say, once my husband did the installation, we could not wait to give it a test spin. We were all delighted by the quiet performance. Our dishes were clean. My old dishwasher had no dispenser for the rinse agent, so this one is better.
It is taking some getting used to just putting the dishes in the dishwasher. It is certainly less work and saves water. I have glass dishes and bowls, so while there are a few spots, everything is just as clean as it was before. While I usually want only the basic components, having more choices of how to clean my dishes is a big plus. I cannot wait to use this when I have a big crowd over for dinner.
The MDB7600A seems a bit smaller than the other one we had, but I am willing to do dishes more often and use less water for the convenience of the quiet operation. The dishes are too hot to take out when the dishes are first done. However, it is a small price to pay for such a job well done.
