| mecenate's Full Review: Maytag MDB7600A Jetclean® II 24 in. Built-in ... |
This dishwasher replaced another Maytag we had for eight years and ran 1000 - 1200 cycles a year. The former was obviously very durable, and that's why we decided to stick with Maytag when we replaced it.
We installed the washer ourselves, and the physical design of the Maytag is very well thought out and helpful for installation/setup (in particular, well balanced and easy to maneuver and rock front to back -- something you'll need to do more than once when connecting the power input, the water feed and the waste line). We've tried all the various settings and they work fine. The cycles take quite a bit of time, but the dishes come out very clean. In particular, the 'tough scrub' or pots-and-pans setting is outstanding. Even the toughest baked on foods are cleaned away. (I know this sounds like a commercial but it's true).
The machine is moderately quiet, but certainly not as noisy as the one it replaced. The adjustable upper rack is convenient, but I doubt we will need to use it very much. Maybe others would find this feature more useful.
The one major drawback we've so far observed is that the racks are quite flimsy (much more so than on earlier machines we've owned). On the top rack, the axle to a small plastic wheel just up and broke when the rack was being loaded one evening (after about a month of use). It's a 25 cent part, but basically the top rack is out of commission until it gets repaired. As we have a large family, like to cook, and rely on our dishwasher a lot, I'm now worried that the flimsy rack design may prove to be problematic in the future -- and we were hoping to have this machine as a reliable feature of our kitchen for many years.
