I bought this dishwasher in January of 2004. Since that time (13 months), the dishwasher has performed beautifully - it's a bit slow (2 hours plus for a "normal" wash cycle), but it does an excellent job getting the dishes clean.
Just one little problem.
A few months after I bought it, one of the axles for the wheels that hold the upper rack in place broke. I got it replaced under warrantee (and, in fact, they replaced the entire upper rack) with no trouble. About a month ago (12 months after purchase), the exact same thing happened again. Same spot, same break pattern. I'm in the process of ordering another replacement, and the *other* front wheel has broken. I took the old upper rack (the one that was replaced before) out, figuring I could salvage a couple of its wheels, but when I took one off I noticed that its axle was cracked as well. Same spot, same pattern.
I'm not overloading the upper rack - a typical load would be seven or eight mugs and glasses, four bowls, and some Tupperware. Yet, this problem keeps reoccurring. I see that at least one other person has reported this identical problem on this site. It's clearly a design flaw, and I'm sure that Maytag has had hundreds (at least) of reports of this particular failure. They should recall the dishwasher, but instead they choose to pretend that it's an isolated incident.
Despite the overall excellent performance of the dishwasher, I will never buy a Maytag again.
