Pros: size, appearance, washing options, finger faucet, end of cycle signal,25 cycles
Cons: Many repairs req. within 2 years, had to replace trans during 1st year, SUPER LOUD
I purchased this washer at Home Depot on February 25, 2004. A washer I had purchased just one year prior to this one had died on me one week after its warranty was up. When we shopped this time around we specifically looked at Maytag. We went on reputation mostly. My mother had a set of Maytag's for 15 years and never had a repair. It looks like the quality has gone down hill since back then.
Due to my past experience with that last washer I told my husband that we should buy an extended warranty this time around because being a busy parent I don't have time for break-downs and we sure can't afford to buy another washer after this one (at least until our child grows up). So along with the one year manufacturer warranty we order a five year extended warranty. Thank goodness we did!!!
In the first year we had the Maytag man over to our house for this washer three times. It said Quiet on the advertisement for this model. This model has been anything but quiet. We had to have the transmission replaced along with the seal and bearing assembly on Jan 21, 2005 (whew! It fell under manufacturer's warranty!)
That is just one example.
Our most recent Maytag call (Oct. 20, 2005) was for squealing and not rinsing properly. That was the 3rd time they were here for that alone!
Most of the features advertised for this SAV 515 washer were:
Energy Star Compliant
3.2 Cubic Feet, Oversized Capacity Plus
Soak Only Cycle
Lifetime Warranty 301-grade Stainless Steel Wash Basket
Quiet Plus Silencing System (HA HA....YEAH RIGHT..SURE!)
Six Water Temperatures With Four Temperature Controls
710 RPM Spin Speed
SturdySpin Suspension Prevents Washer from "walking" across the room
Poly-Pump water extraction
Bleach and Water Softener Dispenser
Self-Cleaning Lint Filter
Available in White only
UPDATE: It is March 14, 2006 and the knob that adjusts the size of the load has broken inside somehow and now just turns around and around. It feels like it is spring loaded. I wonder how long it will take Maytag to come out this time.....if it is even covered under the extended warranty. Grrrrrrr
Oh and the washer is making that banging noise once again! I HATE THIS WASHER!
UPDATE: May 18, 2007-I am FINALLY get a free replacement from the warranty company! What a piece of crap this was! NO MORE MAYTAG! They are sending a new comparable GE Profile! Yeahh
