There's a Monster in the Pool ...and it Cleans !!!

" Nessie"
Disclaimer : I work for a pool company in Louisville ,Ky. No - I am not try to sell you anything, I'm using my experience with different pool products to help you make an informed decision on YOUR purchases (I hope) .
First things first - this little Beast IS expensive It retails for $1,695.00 ( includes shipping) .
But....
it scrubs
it cleans 6,500 square ft. per hour (4200 gallons per hour filtration)
it vacuums
it filters down to 2 microns
it vacuums the steps.
it scrubs the tile line.
and there is NO installation , it is low maintenance,AND it removes algae.
Nessie comes with a transformer that plugs into any standard outdoor 110 volt grounded outlet ,. (It reduces the voltage to 24 volts)
Nessie also has a microprocessor that is preprogrammed to navigate around your pool to sweep the floor , climb the steps ( most of them anyway) , climb the walls up to the waterline , and generally clean your pool so you don't have to .
We "installed" one in a customer's pool 3 weeks ago ( thank you Mrs.McDonald ), and I have been keeping track of "Nessie's" performance since. To let you know how easy she is to hook up - I took her to our customer's home , removed her from the box ,locked her "handle" , dropped her into the pool set the transformer next to the outlet ,and plugged her in , then pushed the ON button . "Nessie" started across the pool ( which had just been opened and had debris in the bottom - i.e. leaves, acorns , twigs , and dead algae ) She marched through from the shallow to the deep end - leaving a trail of clean bottom behind her - then she went up the wall - her little blue brushes sticking out of the water and scrubbing the coping - YES the COPING !!!)
I've been in the pool business a number of years and I was truly surprised by this cleaner's performance.
Within 30 minutes this sweep had cleaned walls , coping , and was headed for the steps -- OK , now it would fail - these were small 3 ' steps - the Nessie couldn't possibly cleans those - right ?.... WRONG - she cleaned the bottom step, then cleaned the middle step - but the top step - which is out of the water - was beyond her reach .
The customer was still thrilled - and so was I - but I wanted updates -
I've stopped by once a week since then - the pool is sparkling clean - our customer is truly pleased - and to date there is only one small flaw -occassionally "Nessie " tangles with her own cord - but she gets herself untangled if left alone ! She doesn't get stuck in the regular places either - she cleans around the ladder , over the pool light and main drain , and the steps . And , you don't have to stick around when she's cleaning - after 7 hours she shuts herself off.
And cleaning "Nessie" is simple too - just turn her off, remove her from the pool , turn her on her side - remove the filter bag - empty it , hose it off, then replace the bag in the unit and you're ready to go again !
I love it ! I also like the fact that the little Beast is made of corrosion proof materials and has less than 10 moving parts , The onboard drive and pump motors have NO brushes and are sealed (with oil) in separate compartments . So there are NO tune-ups, NO adjustments, No servicing , AND NO MAINTENANCE!
If you can afford it , buy it ! This is one great little pool cleaner !
P.S. Our "Nessie" came with a 70' cord - more than enough
for most pools .
UPDATE : As of this date , July 27,2001 my opinion of Nessie remains the same. This is the best pool sweep we've used/sold , and has to be in the top three IF not the Best.
It still is cleaning as well as it did when we first dropped it in Mrs. McDonald's pool . She and her husband , per her own words , "absolutely love it !!" .
