sojournseeker's Full Review: Mccormick Pork Rub 3.46oz 98 G
McCormick has always been a company I saw while growing up and cooking as a toss-up of adding either good or bad enhancement to my entrée, whatever it was. A couple years I went with Adolphs but that got too salty and too boring. The next few years was just the various Mrs. Dash’s which I generally fall back on if fresh herbs are just not around or too expensive.
But this year, McCormick brought Grill Mates to the buffet and it is new to our local grocery chain. It was some of their spices either separate or combined, that made a difference and this new rub, well it has its merits and its weaknesses. I generally appreciate just the spice, no added sugar or salt. I don't consume many meats and if chicken is on sale and we buy that, I want it to at least taste good.
Thankfully, or so I thought these new 'mommy's little helpers', McCormick Rubs-- Grill Mates McCormick Pork Rub to be exact in a 3.46ounce or 96 gram plastic jar, was used in an effort to change the everyday chicken into extraordinary.
As a stand alone, on your taste, sensation, I find this simply salty and sugary and gritty, all at the same time. Everyone else thought the chicken was no doubt extraordinary as seasoned, I just thought it was the juiciest its ever been. Bursting with some semblance of flavoring, I personally feel it would detract from the meal had we not broiled veggies near it like the carrots and celery.
Although that meal was consumed yesterday, I am sitting here at the 'puter once again not taking the mini-vacation I promised myself beginning at 9pm last night and ending tonight at 9pm, because I decided to write this review.
The end of horror movies for October on television and cable were less than thrilling and the Halloweeners (hey celebratory hotdogs) never showed up so my only bag of candy, I shared with the family !
Anyway on with the review . . .
According to the lid this is definitely a "sweet, smoky blend of chilli peppers, savory spices and herbs that gives meat a bold, flavorful crust tat seals in the juices". Directions are to rub a generous 2 tablespoons to one pound of meat and cook as desired.
Well last week it was added to a sausage and rice dirty mix and it was fantastic; although yesterdays dish was poultry and it calls for use on pork, it stood fairly well to making the meat exciting. There is no doubt any chicken you want to make more succulent, Grill Mates McCormick Pork Rub is the rub to go with if you don’t mind just a sugary tangy aftertaste that is left. You don’t need much so of course it goes a long way. You can accomplish the same with ribs, and steaks I am sure because the ingredients are versatile and common.
