A Steelers figure for real sports collectors.

Pros: Accuracy and detail are amazing for a figure of this size and cost!

Cons: Not meant for play, display only.

The Bottom Line: Looks great, amazing accuracy, and displays without any effort. It's not meant for play though.

Are you ready to put some steel in your collection? Do you want to add a true conversation piece to your collection of Steelers memorabilia without spending a fortune? Maybe a little something for the corner of your desk...but it must be something that looks worthy of such an important spot, right? I understand just where your coming from and highly recommend the Jerome Bettis figure from the McFarlane toys fifth NFL series.

What is it?
McFarlane NFL figures are plastic sculptures of professional football players that stand about six inches tall. These figures aren't really toys though you may find them in toy stores. You'd do well to consider these collectibles for adult fans and skip them for the really young members of your shopping list.

Accuracy
I have no doubt that a close inspection of this figure will lead anyone to say that it is 100%, drop dead accurate. Look closely and you'll see the football is marked exactly like a real NFL football. The mud and grass stains on the pants and shirt are an amazingly accurate touch that screams Steelers. All markings on the uniform, helmet, and the face within are done so well it's staggering...absolutely dead on.

Ease of use
It couldn't be much easier to use this as intended. Open the package and place Jerome on the base that is supplied with the figure. After this simple operation he'll stand basically anywhere other than your car's hood without you having to come back and check on him. Leave him on a shelf or desk and he's liable to stand there for years without so much as leaning!

Safety concerns
I don't really have any safety concerns with the figure. If it were left in the hands of a toddler something may break off and be swallowed but it'd really take a long period of inattention. If you live in an earthquake zone this could fly off the shelf and hit you in the head...it's capable of leaving a mark if that happened. All in all it seems to be a reasonably safe thing to have around the house.

Durability
Given that this will spend it's time basically sitting on a shelf I don't see it as having a durability problem. It's well made and could stand up to some play or being dropped a few times but I wouldn't suggest using it to drive nails or squish bugs. Be reasonable with it and it'll last much longer than your interest in it.

Do I want Bettis on my desk?
If you don't know, Bettis is considered a great Steeler. He's also got a good reputation off the field and still works as an analyst on TV. Most people who are Steelers fans would have no problem at all with keeping a bit of Bettis memorabilia around.

Overall
It's a very nice addition to your collection. This is leaps and bounds better than at least one alternative item. I really believe that this looks classy enough to be displayed in your office as well as in your home. This has a ton of potential for a sports fan in general and especially for a Steelers fan!
