Cons: Makes your breasts look creepy and they don't really work
The Bottom Line: As a nursing mother who experienced ALL of the discomforts that the Hobbit Breast Shells claim to remedy or relieve, I can confidently say that these contraptions do not work!
nursingmom's Full Review: Medela Hobbit Breast Shells
Most Medela products are ingenuously designed and so helpful; however, the Hobbit Breast Shells are a bomb-shell! As the mother of a six-month-old who is still successfully nursing despite starting off with inverted nipples, cracked, sore and bleeding nipples, and a case of Thrush, I can honestly tell you that these Breast Shells are worthless. Here are my reasons:
1) When I used them to treat my inverted nipples, they did absolutely nothing. I noticed no change. I had more success when I pumped my breasts for a minute or two before attempting to latch my son on.
2) When I used the shells for sore nipples, I experienced even more pain after using them, because when you twist or move around, or accidentally bump against something...OUCH!!!
3) Engorgement is a leaky, messy fact of life for the first month, and I found that using the dome and cone combo of the shells did not relieve the engorgement pressure. All it did was make an even bigger, leakier mess!
4) The shells consist of three mysterious parts: the Dome, the Ring, and the Cone, none of which fit together snugly.
5) To add insult to injury, they make your breasts look creepy. They make Madonna's funky bras look tame!
