This is a good method for expressing milk for you infant. I first purchased style of pump because it was less expensive than the other Medela's, but then I really grew to love it.

I was nervous the first time I tried to pump and I had an audience, so that never helps. My lactation advisor was the person who sold me the pump and she was there to help me get started. Although, the description says that it cost in the $50's, I purchased it for only $36.00. I was able to get a manual pump at the hospital and the accessories to that pump also connected to the pedal pump.
It was easy to assemble and is not much work, once you let down. You don't have to work you feet hard at all. Sometimes, I would watch television or read and I would completely forget that I was pumping. In fact one time, I wasn't paying attention and it overflowed. You can change feet with ease and not cause disruption in the flow.
I was told it is good to have your baby or a picture of her around when you begin pumping. This will help you to let down easier.
The good thing was the cost. The electric ones, although lasting a good while, are costly. This was so cost efficient for us and it worked really well.
The downfall is when you decrease nursing your baby as they get older, they pedal pump doesn't allow you to get much milk. In my case I wasn't producing as much and it was harded to let down to the pump. Also, it is bulky and not easily carried to work. This pump is best used for when you can pump at home.
