You probably did too. And really, it was good for that purpose. What else could I say about say about Meister Brau Light? Well, at least it lacks the putrid brackishness that accompanies most mainstream light lager offerings.
It has no flavor whatsoever. If I was forced to make a decision, I would say it leans sweeter, with some slightly noticeable malty flavor. There is no hop distinction in flavor, aroma, or bitterness.
I first drank this beer in high school. Being the philosopher at 17 that I still am today, I understood the impropriety of age-based alcohol prohibition (let parents raise their children, not the government). Me and two friends entered the seediest local grocery store in which we didn't fear for our lives, and browsed around. We found Meister Brau Light most appropriately suited our budgets. Then, like good hunters, we sat in a old station wagon outside the store awaiting our prey. After about a half an hour a rough-looking fellow of about fifty ambled by who claimed he wasn't old enough to buy beer. He reconsidered his age once an Abe Lincoln was offered.
Excited, the three of us came home with two full quarts of the stuff each. Thank goodness that we had managed to find an enlightened adult willing to stand up for righteousness in the face of a Byzantine legal establishment.
That time is finally behind me though, both in terms of law and beer aesthetics. I have only drank Meister Brau one time since that, and it was only because I was offered one at an acquaintance's house and wanted to be polite.
Carbonation levels are high as you would expect in a light American lager, but MB goes down without leaving so much as a faint trace of flavorful memory or on the tongue, or any fullness in the belly. Meister Brau Light is better left behind to your adventurous high school days spent in prohibition.
