balajithegreat's Full Review: Memorex ScrollPro Optical (32022376) Mouse
First off, let me start out by saying that the package I got my optical scrollpro in does not look anything like the picture here. Mine was in a traditional bubble pack and it did not come with any carrying case.
I bought the mouse to replace a ball mouse that had problems with dirt. Its buttons had also become very hard to press (after the replacement, I opened the old mouse and figured out that the buttons were hard to press because the wires inside the mouse had shifted out of their guides and were stuck between the external button and the internal switch the button presses on. Once I got the wires seated back in their guides properly, the button problem vanished). This mouse came on sale at an unbeatable price at Best Buy (free after rebates), so it was not a tough decision at all.
I had read reviews of this mouse on Amazon.com that suggested that the driver software was buggy and could cause the computer to become unstable. So, I took a minimalist approach to this mouse. I ignored their instructions and did what I would normally do for any mouse: I removed my old mouse and attached this one to my computer while the computer was still on (the instructions ask you to switch off the computer and connect the mouse). I tried it out and all the functions worked perfectly (including the scroll wheel that I was most worried about). BTW, this mouse is attached to a desktop PC running Win 98 SE. So, I threw their driver software CD into my pile of other CD's that I keep as a backup and have not even opened the seal on its package.
The mouse is very sensitive and you can actually perform accurate line drawings on the screen because the optical infrastructure is much better at figuring out the direction you are moving the mouse in, than the ball in a ball mouse. It never sticks and you never have to pop out a ball and scrap lint off the rollers. The mouse also has very nice, soft buttons that require very little effort to activate (this is nice for my 3 year old who was having great difficulty pressing the buttons on my old mouse). It also has a nice ergonomic shape. The scroll wheel and the tail of the mouse (part farthest from the cord) glow bright red when the mouse is being moved and used and glow dull red when the mouse is inactive. This is not a utilitarian feature of the mouse, but certainly makes it a lot more attractive!
Overall, no complaints so far. I love the mouse and would recommend it to anyone who has had it with ball mice.
The Memorex Optical ScrollPro Mouse is a perfect way to replace basic mice and upgrade to better technology. The scroll wheel makes web surfing and pr...More at eBay
