clifswin's Full Review: Memorex ScrollPro Optical (32022376) Mouse
After two months of putting up with a Microsoft optical mouse with a short in the cord, I finally went out to my local computer discount place to shop for a replacement. After looking around, I decided what I wanted: the Microsoft wireless optical mouse & keyboard combination. Two problems, though... the store was out of them except for the demo, and the price was $99, a bit more than I can afford right now.
OK, so back over to the mouse aisle and look again. I know I'll be getting that fancy combo later, so what I need right now is a mouse that won't make me scream and throw it against the wall, for a low price so I can bear to put it aside later.
The above focuses my search on
* wired mice
* optical (because the MS-mouse spoiled me)
* and comfortable in the hand.
After a lot of pacing up & down, the winner was the Memorex ScrollPro Optical.
Got it home, hooked it up... Major surprise! It's even more comfortable and responsive than my MS-mouse was. Feels better in my hand, is lighter, glides over the pad more smoothly and the wheel has a nice texture that makes for a sense of real control. Mine didn't come with the fancy case others seem to be getting, but just the same I'm already in love with this thing.
Maybe I won't get that other gadget after all.

UPDATE: as of May, 2003 (three months later) this mouse has seen a lot of use (I probably average 10 hours a day at this computer) and the only problem to date is that the texture I mentioned above for the wheel seems to have all worn off. The wheel is now almost eerily smooth. It still works fine, but with a little less confidence than it did initially. This is still the best $10 mouse I've ever seen.
