Pros: Large capacity
Small form factor
Leather case
Lanyard hole
Swing out USB1.1/2 connector
Cons: Fat at 1/2"
Easily heats up during large transfers
The Bottom Line: Buy it if the price is right. 6 GB is lots of temporary storage. There is an 8GB version available now. The leather case alone is worth half the price!

| sawatzky's Full Review: Memorex Mega TravelDrive⢠6 GB USB 2.0 Hard Driv... |
I would first refer you to the excellent review of the 8GB Memorex traveldrive, the successor to this 6GB drive. The only difference is that this drive is 2 GB smaller, and I paid the same as that reviewer. I agreed with that review 100%.
I would add that I use the drive to transfer data from my work PC to my Mac at home, with no trouble whatsoever. The first week I filled the drive daily, transferred to the home computer, and then erased it completely. Each transfer took about 2 hours (with USB 1.1), and the drive heated up considerably in that time. I placed the drive in front of the computer's air intake, and the airflow kept it cool. I'd recommend that you take the drive out of the leather case before extended use.
The drive itself is a Seagate micro-drive... a tiny 1" hard drive that spins around 3800 RPM, and takes less than 2 seconds to come up to speed. A nice blue LED lets you know when the drive is in use.
I would also add that I wrote a full review for this product when Epinions was still calling this drive a 6GB FLASH
drive. Apparently they realized their mistake, deleted the product and with it, my review!
Pros:
Large capacity,
Inexpensive
Seagate internals
Small and robust form factor (1/2 a credit card sized but 1/2" thick),
Leather case with belt loop, plus a lanyard hole.
Swing out USB connector
Cons:
It's Fat at 1/2" -- LaCie has a FLAT credit card sized version of the same thing... which may or may not be a good thing depending on how you are going to store and transfer the drive. The Memorex drive is great for throwing in your pocket or other high pressured enclosure because it's robust enough to withstand the pressure. A drive no thicker than a CF card could easily break if you sat on it.
Heats up during large transfers.
