lacechenault's Full Review: Memory Almost Full by Paul McCartney
I love Paul McCartney, and when I say love, I mean if I had a god it would be Paul McCartney. I have been in love with this man for years and years. My husband knows, and this is something he has known since we got together Paul is my love.
I had the wonderful opportunity to see him in concert a few years back when he was pushing Chaos and Creation in the Backyard, an album that I absolutely love to this day.
So when I first heard he was coming out with a new album I was very excited, I wont be able to possibly afford more tickets to see him again, I know, its a sad, sad thing, but I know I would be getting the CD. So Upon hearing about the big starbucks hoopla (they played nothing but this new CD for a while there) I went to my local starbucks (one of the 10) and bought it.
I must say I really like it.
Ill give you the obligatory song rundown that seems so popular these days. Im not going through every song; just the ones I find need a note.
Dance Tonight this is the one you will hear everywhere even in ipod commercials now the first single form the album. This song features a whole lot of mandolin. It is a very upbeat song, and it is no surprise that it is the first single. You will find yourself, at the very least, tapping your feet to it. The video, which can be found all over Youtube featured Natalie Portman, a friend of his daughter Stella.
See your Sunshine - Its may be rather surprising to hear love songs from Paul McCartney after his recent separation and nasty divorce proceedings however this album was writing before Chaos and Creation. This is another sweet Paul McCartney love songs. Almost, dare I say it sexiness coming from a 65 year old man.
Mr. Bellamy - This songs seems to try to be the next Uncle Albert in ways, but it fails it isnt a horrible song, there are just much better Paul songs which are so similar. However the melancholy melody changes and such are very new and hip for such an old singer he is keeping with the times rather well.
Gratitude - In this song you get a bit of that good old Paul McCartney sweet singing/yelling out. Not so much about love, but more about being grateful for everything, even the love he had and lost. Nice Beatles like melodies in this one even a little bit of the backwards record sounds of the past.
Vintage Clothes - Not single worthy, and my favorite on the album. Another one that reminds me very much of the Beatles times in the mixture of instruments, back up singers, and back up crowd noise. A very nice song, that sadly wont get the recognition it should.
End of the End - Wow, this song is so bad. On the Day that I die is the lyric that really tears my heart up its all about singing good songs, and being happy on the day that he dies. And there are a lot of songs that run along the same vein as this one on the album all about looking to his past reflecting which is a bit scary Paul cant die Ringo simply cannot be the last standing Beatle.
Nod Your Head Wow rock it old man! This song is surprisingly rockish. A Paul McCartney song that isnt Jet or Live and Let Die that you really should blast! Another one that reminds me of Wings as most of the songs on this album remind me of younger Paul days it fits right in this CD.
This is a very good purchase worthy album of Paul McCartneys especially for the fans. It is almost like a walk through his history. As I said most of the songs remind me of Wings or the Beatles. It features all kinds of crazy instruments, and mixes. A very interesting CD to say the least.
I hate to say one bad thing about anything pertaining to Paul, however, this album is being way over hyped in comparison to others in my mind. I thought Chaos and Creation was a wonderful album, I still listen to it on a weekly basis and Flaming Pie that was an awesome album too but we didnt hear quite as much about them as we are about this one and I just dont understand it.
Yes this album it just as good as those other two I mentioned, but Starbucks played it non-stop for how long? They are selling it and gift cards featuring Paul at Starbucks. I am seeing iPod commercials featuring Paul Singing Dance Tonight. They also had a two part interview with Paul on one of those morning shows about this album. Maybe its because he just got a divorce, maybe it is his 65th birthday (but wasnt the 64th more interesting?)
Now I have no problem seeing Paul McCartney everywhere as I love him, I just dont get why the others didnt get as much attention. They act as if this is his best CD EVER and it will BLOW YOUR MIND in comparison, and this just isnt true. Maybe this is just how it will be from now on because he is being marketed better.
From the artist: The first recording session was back in the autumn of 2003 at Abbey Road with my touring band and producer David Kahne. I was right i...More at Buy.com Marketplaces
