Pros: Works Quickly, Soothes & Cools Skin, Really Works To Relieve Congestion!
Cons: Greasy Feeling
I am finally getting over my allergy attack that hit me late last week, and finally starting to feel human again. I went through several medications, praying that one of them would work to relieve my congestion and help me breathe. There is nothing worse than trying to sleep with a nose that is plugged up tight! While I was visiting my parents, my mother handed me a bottle of Mentholatum Ointment and told me to rub a small amount under my nostrils. I admit it, I was skeptical, but I am now glad that I took my mother's advice!
For a 3 ounce jar of Mentholatum Ointment, my mother paid approximately $4.00 at a local pharmacy. I have seen this product in our local grocery store and discount store as well, for around the same price.
~*~I Can Breathe Again!~*~
When I first opened the jar of Mentholatum Ointment I was a bit hesitant to stick my fingers into the goop that looked a lot like petroleum jelly. I took a quick sniff of the contents, and immediately I could feel the menthol working ever so slightly on my stuffed up nose. I finally gave in and applied a dime sized amount under my nose. The first thing I noticed was the cooling sensation the chapped skin under my nose was receiving. My skin was tingling, and slightly burning, but the sensation was remarkable. My poor red and irritated skin felt ten times better in just seconds! Wanting more relief for my chapped nose, I applied a small amount to the tip of my nose and the sides of each nostril. Once again, Mentholatum Ointment went to work at soothing and cooling my skin.
At the same time Mentholatum Ointment was cooling my skin, it was also helping to break up the mucous that had built up and plugged up my nose. I could immediately tell that it was working, and slowly, I was able to breathe through my nose, and not my mouth. In minutes, I was having to keep a tissue to my nose, as my sinuses finally started to drain and I could finally just breathe! I continued to apply Mentholatum Ointment, even during the night, and it continued to provide relief to both my skin and my sinuses.
Upon inspecting the back of the jar a bit further, I found that Mentholatum Ointment could also be rubbed on my chest to help break up the chest congestion I was experiencing. Once again, I scooped out some of the goopy mixture, and applied it liberally against my skin. Immediately I could feel the cooling affect, and it felt as though it was cooling and soothing deep into the muscles and tissues. I couldn't tell the drastic difference in my chest congestion as I could in my nose congestion, but, I did notice a slight difference. I continued using this product through the rest of my allergy attack, and it, combined with my cough medication, really seemed to work on my chest congestion and provide me with relief.
I experienced no skin irritations when using Mentholatum Ointment. It worked wonderfully to heal and soothe my chapped skin. This product does have a very greasy feel to it, that is rather hard to wash off. Each time I would attempt to remove it, I had to scrub to get the greasy substance off of my skin.
Mentholatum Ointment comes in a green shatter proof jar with a white screw on lid. This product is recommended for chest congestion, stuffy noses, chapped skin, and muscle aches. It is for external use only, and not to be used on children under the age of two.
Ingredients: Camphor 9%, Natural Menthol 1.3%, Fragrance, Petrolatum, Titanium Dioxide.
I would highly recommend Mentholatum Ointment. It worked wonderfully to soothe my chapped skin as well as provide me immediate relief from my stuffy nose. It worked to ease the achiness in my chest, and helped to break up some of the chest congestion I was experiencing.
