| njchicaa's Full Review: Merrick Pet Foods Thanksgiving Day Dinner for Cats |
I have been feeding the Merrick line of canned cat foods to my own cats and those in the rescue for about six months. One of their favorite flavors is "Turducken"--a combination of turkey, duck, and chicken. I guess I never bought Thanksgiving Day Dinner for them before because I felt like I was already feeding them a turkey flavored food. Anyway, in an attempt to add more variety to their diet, I bought a case of Thanksgiving Day Dinner and hoped to heck that they would like it!
Product Description
From company website: A nice snow fall has blanketed the ground and friends & family have traveled from miles around. The house is Filled with the wonderful smells of Thanksgiving. This years plump turkey is basking in its own savory gravy and has everyone buzzing. It doesnt get any better than the heaping plate of juicy turkey and all the trimmings. Even the resident Tom cat enjoys this once a year event, even though the twins keep him hiding under the guest bed. Thats why Merrick created this special harvest celebration for cats to enjoy year around. Happy Thanksgiving from the Merrick family to yours.

I really love this formula and Merrick foods in general because they don't contain things like by-products, roadkill, cancerous tumors, expired grocery store meat including plastic wrap and styrofoam tray, euthanized cats/dogs, etc. You also won't find ground corn, wheat, soy, or other types of grains that are inappropriate for your cat. This food contains whole, healthy ingredients that are good for your pet. No rank rendering plant glop here!
Cost and Availability
The suggested retail price for a 5.5 ounce can of Thanksgiving Day Dinner is $1.94. That is about 5 or 6 times more expensive than your average can of cheap grocery store food. The difference is that this food contains excellent, high-quality proteins, fats, and carbohydrates as opposed to what goes into those 30-cent cans of cat food. When I order my Merrick Thanksgiving Day Dinner, I pay about $1.00 per can and sometimes less.
Merrick cat and dog food is not sold in grocery stores, drug stores, discount stores, large pet chain stores like PetCo/PetSmart, or even in the lower-end independent pet stores. The Merrick company prides itself on being stocked by the very best independent pet stores. For that reason, locating their prodicts in your area might be a challenge. The company website has a store locator to help you find their products. You also can order directly from Merrick on their website if you can't find anything in your area.
I buy my Merrick products from www.petfooddirect.com. Their prices are well below suggested retail (about $1.00 per 5.5 ounce can) and they frequently send me 20% off email coupons that cover the cost of shipping plus a nice bit more off the total order.
And The Cats Say...
That they love it! It smells like fresh turkey and you can see bits of carrots and green beans in the sauce. They come running when I they hear me opening up the can and rub up against my legs until I put their bowls down onto the floor. They finish everything I give them and won't leave a single bit of Thanksgiving Day Dinner in their bowl before they walk away. It is easy on their stomachs and helps to keep their skin smooth and their coats super-silky. I love to feed this food to them because they love it and it is so good for them. I will continue to buy Thanksgiving Day Dinner for my cats for as long as Merrick produces it.
