| Kittyokc's Full Review: Mews Ments Multi Color Cage Ball Cat Toy |
We picked up the Mew Ments Multi Color Cage Ball along with a bunch of other toys for the cats when we adopted our cat Reva last year, unfortunately this is one of the few toys we got that ended up being a disappointment.
In the package are two very colorful 1 1/2" cage balls with colorful bells in them. The balls are suppose to be made with durable plastic to give your cats long-lasting fun. When I first saw these, I immediately thought of Easter colors since they are all pastels, light yellow, green, purple, etc. This really is a pretty simple toy and the plastic is hard.
Did the cats like them?
The answer to this would be no. While the bells inside the balls did get their interest, the cats just sniffed and stared at the cage balls. I would roll it across the floor as I've done with their other toy balls and they would just watch it. One time I did get Frisky to chase after one for a second, but once the ball stopped rolling, he lost interest and would go play with one of his other toys. I even tried spraying them with catnip to get the cats interested, but all that did was get them to sniff and rub their heads on them, but not play with them.
Because the cats didn't play with them, these cage balls just sat around and were basically forgotten, unless you accidentally kicked one of them, then you'd hear the darn bell, which can be quite annoying if you get up in the middle of the night.
As far as durability, for durability with the cats, I can't really say because they didn't play with them. I've accidentally stepped on them in the middle of the night in bare feet and I can tell you, it hurts, but didn't crack or anything, but one was stepped on by my older son with his shoes on and it cracked a few of the spindles on it.
Conclusion
While we only paid about $1.30 or so for these, I don't recommend them unless you know your cats like to play with plastic balls. For some reason, our cats only like the soft material kind. I'm sure these can be just as fun, but our cats just weren't interested no matter how much I tried.
If you've had luck with the plastic toys with your cats, I would recommend you give them a try, that is if you don't mind the jingling of the bells as they roll across the floor, but if you're not sure, I would say just skip these and pick up a different toy.
