A Good Value

Written: Jun 07 '02
Pros:Great Location, Awesome Pool, Comfortable Rooms, Entertainment
Cons:Check-In a nightmare, Easy to get lost (size)
The Bottom Line: Great bang for your buck if you are looking for an all-in-one Vegas hotel experience.

Me and a friend of mine stayed at the MGM Grand in October of 2001 and I must say that I was impressed with one of the worlds largest hotels.

But it didnt start out that great. We got there on a Friday afternoon, and check-in was a complete zoo. It took us roughly 1 1/2 hours to finally get our room key. Getting to the elevators (like most Vegas hotels) is also a chore, but this place is enormus and very easy to get lost in. It felt like we walked a mile and finally found our hidden elevators.

When we got to our room we were pleasently surprised with the decor and furnishings of our room for such a large hotel. The colors were light and the furnishings were high quality with a modern feel. The bathrooms were quite spacious, with marble, but nothing too fancy. We had a great view of the North strip and a locking safe for our valuables.

The Pool (or should I say pools) were simply breath taking. After walking a mile from our room, we made it outside to this tropical oasis of palm trees, cabanas, and crystal blue pools (I think a total of 7 or so). It was fun to people watch around here.

For entertainment, we checked out the comedian George Carlin who was nothing short of hilarious. There were many other shows going on with a few live bands in various parts of the casino, The lion habitat, EFX Live with Rick Springfield, the risque Le Femme, and of course Studio 54 is a great club for after-hours dancing.

The location is one of the hottest corners in Vegas and is hard to beat. Across the street from New York, New York, Luxor, Mandalay Bay, and Tropicana, it beats having to walk miles and miles down to other casinos down the strip.

Despite its shortcomings of size, and hassle, the MGM more than makes up for it in the categories I have described. If having everything in a Vegas hotel under one roof is what you are looking for, look no further than the MGM Grand.
