Pros: Superb handling, effortless cornering, smooth, quiet ride
Cons: not as stable at highway speeds compared with LTXs, appearance should be more rugged
The Bottom Line: Choose Cross Terrains based on what you need them for: noticeably improved handling, quiet ride, good highway stability.
LTX M/S will serve most of your needs for less money.

| rick_tan's Full Review: Michelin Cross Terrain SUV Truck/SUV Tire |
Standard on my 2000 Toyota Land Cruiser were the Michelins LTX M/S 275/70 R16s. When time came to replace the tires, I purchased the Cross Terrains through Americas Tire for $165 each. I wanted to try out the X-Terrains based on online reviews by Michelin's website. I have driven on them for about 2000 miles.
Compared to the LTXs, the X-Terrains' most obvious advantage is the improved handling and cornering. The X-Terrains surprise me during turns since the Land Cruiser is a heavy vehicle; I expect to feel tire slippage and body roll, but the new tires allows me to confidently handle turns as if the Land Cruiser was a sports car (aftermarket Bilstein gas shocks on my Land Cruiser help too!).I don't notice much of a difference in the quietness -- both are exceptional, and the kids sleep soundly on long drives. The Durablack rubber keep the tires looking new.
The Land Cruiser feels more stable at highway speeds with the LTXs than the X-Terrains. The X-Terrains require more attention to keep on track. X-Terrains have lower roll resistance than the LTXs which isn't really so good for a heavy vehicle -- I am using my brakes longer to stop the car. Finally, aesthetically, I believe Michelin could have given the tires a more rugged side wall appearance to really round off these tires' overall excellent rating.
