Pros: last forever
Cons: slick when half worn out
Bought a set for my 1994 4Runner at 30000 miles. These tires had 19/32 of tread when new. These tires provided excellent traction on and off the road until they had about 40000 miles on them. I began to notice wet traction was getting worse than I expected. A friend of mine had purchased a set at the same time as myself and I noticed he no longer had them. I asked him what had become of his tires and his reply was they were getting slick in the rain. I thought this strange because of the amount of tread still remaining of the tires I had and just assumed it was his vehicle (1998 Pathfinder) or his driving habits.
Well as the mileage progressed they got worse traction until at 84000 (54000 on tires)I spun out going down a hill in the rain. Thankfully I did not hit anything and continued to work. Now at 86000 (56000 on tires)I was going up a hill at about 20 mph in the rain when again I spun out of control (going slow because of distrust in tires). This time I was not so lucky as I hit a concrete retaining wall. Now these tires were only about half worn out (10/32 remaining) and should still be gripping well, but they were dangerous and cost me $1200.00 in vehicle damage. Well now I have BFG All Terrain KO as of 86003 miles.
