I have a 2003 Ford F150 SuperCrew which came with Goodyear Wrangler AT/S LT265 70R17 tires on it (SEE REVIEW: The worst tires in the world have Goodyear written all over them.) I did not buy the Michelins to replace the Goodyears ... they were put on under warrenty, but the dealer billed Ford over $900 for them.
Now it has Michelin LTX M/S 265 70R17's on it and the difference is like night and day. These Michelins are great tires. They ride smooth, quiet, and they handle quite well in wet or dry conditions. I have put approx. 1500 miles on them and I notice no problems with wear (SEE GOODYEAR REVIEW). The tread appears to be holding up excellently ... which I believe would indicate a long tire life.
The smoothness of ride is what is most impressive about these tires. I have owned various vehicles (cars, trucks, minivans, and SUV's) and this rather large truck drives and rides just as well; if not better than, any of the others with these tires on it. I realize that the tread design is not 'aggressive' like LT type tires, but they perform very well in dry and wet conditions. I actually think that when driving through areas of water that have 'ponded' on the road there is less loss of traction and better steering control than with most other tires that I have had experience with. They also handle quite well. I have on a couple of occassions had to make avoidance manouvers and they responded with effortless ease. They are also quite quiet. The only time that I ever notice any type of road noise is when driving over 'rocky' or 'grooved' pavement. This does not happen very often so it is not a major problem or concern.
I have noticed that the Michelins do pick up rocks and other small road debris in the tread and throw it under the fenderwells. I have no problem with this, but it something that I have noticed and felt that I should make notice of.
These are the second set of Michelins that I have owned and I personally think that they are the best brand of tires on the market. I am quite pleased with the LTX M/S and look forward to many miles of driving on them. If you are in the market for a new set of tires ... whether it be these or another type ... I don't think that you will go wrong with Michelins. Let's just say that I think 'The best tires in the world have Michelin written all over them'.
