| ChuckV's Full Review: Michelob Amber Bock |
This beer is one of the Anheiser Busch attempts to get their share of the microbrew craze. With 60% of the entire beer market under their control, i'm not sure why they need to dip their dirty paws into the tiny share that craft brewers have, but they did.
I would not normally pay for an AB/Michelob product but I recieved this in a sampler 12 pack as a gift. Not my favorite brand but I am extremely happy anytime i get beer as a gift.
To my suprise, many of these beers were actually pretty good although not true to style in any way. The Amber Bock is not amber nor is it a true Bock. It is basically a dark lager. I would have respected AB more if they would have actually done an all malt beer. Just like bud Light, it says right on the label, "made with the finest rice...".
The nose was slightly sweet and very clean like a lager should be. The taste was similar with some adjunct sweetness, roasted malt, and light hops. The finish was nonexistant, or in mass market beer drinker terms, "smooth".
By no means is this a rich, complex or flavorful beer. Do not be fooled by AB's marketing of the beer. It is however a decent tasting beer when compared to beers in a similar price range such as Bud, Miller, and Coors. For the money, there is no doubt that I would choose this over the normal big 3 products.
