| George_Chabot's Full Review: Michelob Amber Bock |
Michelob® Amber Bock
Amber Bock is a pleasant beer I tried on draft at the Roadhouse Grill in Conyers, Georgia.
Given my bias for German beers drank in the old-fashioned way, I am a draft beer drinker if at all possible. Although the Roadhouse had many fine bottled beers to choose from, such as Killian’s®, Samuel Adams®, etc., I wanted draft beer to enjoy with my meal.
Given the paltry choice between Bud, Bud Light, Michelob Light, and Amber Bock, I decided to try the latter. I admit my expectations were not much...
I first ordered a sixteen-ounce mug of Amber Bock, which both my wife, also a draft beer lover, and I sampled.
The beer was a hearty root beer color with a tan foam head which quickly dissipated, just like typical American beer, but wait! The first sip was a surprise; slightly heavier than typical Anheuser-Busch products, with a pleasing smooth taste, fairly light on the carbonation. The flavor was heavier malt, no hops, and slightly sweet, with no discernible aftertaste. A perfect complement to the A-B tradition of weak, watery beers, but a lot better than their usual attempts.
We felt this would be the best beer to drink with our meals, which consisted of pork chops for me, and Pearl Harbor Shark, for her. We were right! We ordered a pitcher, based on our independent taste test... Amber Bock was great with pork or blackened shark steak. We were impressed much more than if we had been stuck with Bud®, Miller®, or Coors®.
My rating of Amber Bock: if you have only the typical American choices, this is much better as a draft beer for one with an educated palate. If you want a typical American beer, Amber Bock will be unpalatable to you. In that case, stick with Bud®, Miller®, Coors®, or better yet, Milwaukee’s Best® (cheaper and just as good)!
