I am not a big beer drinker but, I have found a beer that I have been fitting into my diet, because it:
1. Is low calorie (Just 95)
2. Is low Carbohydrates (Just 2.6 grams per 12 Oz. serving)
3. I like the taste of it! (I really do!)
I found the beer after reading about it on the internet. No advertising had hit my area yet. I went to my local grocery store and it was not on the shelf so I asked for it. The beer/wine manager went to the back of the store and brought two six packs out. I paid $4.99 per six pack, I took it home and gave it a try.
Michelob Ultra Low Carbohydrate, low Calorie beer has a smooth taste that I can only describe as not being a heavy beer taste. When I began drinking wine I started out with the whites and white zinfandels. I remember disliking Merlots and Cabernets. Now I can't stand the sweet fruity soda pop taste of White Zinfandel wines. To a seasoned beer drinker who likes hearty, bold flavored beer, Michelob Ultra is probably the White Zin of beers. To me, it is very good and very refreshing. I have matched Michelob Ultra beer with Hot dogs and Hamburgers and it tasted great! The beer is also good with some chips or just by itself as a quick thirst quencher.
Michelob Ultra Low Carbohydrate beer is marketed as a smooth and refreshing lager beer. I have to agree with that statement. It has a light crisp taste that is not bitter and does not give me that "after beer" taste left in my mouth with heartier beers. The aroma of the beer is very faint compared to other beers. When I just did a little smell test I found I had to let the bottle linger before my nose for a while to even get the smell.
The beer as I said has 2.6 Carbohydrates per 12 ounce serving and is only 95 calories. It has .6 grams of Protein and 0 grams of fat. I believe the beer will be strongly marketed to the "low carb dieters" who are concerned about the amount of Carbohydrates they are consuming. The Michelob web site contains Carbohydrate information from other drinks containing alcohol. When you see that a Smirnoff Ice has 32 Carbohydrates and 228 Calories per 12 ounce serving, the Michelob Ultra looks very appealing from a dieters perspective.
Overall I feel that I have found a beer that I enjoy drinking and at the same time I can watch my calories and carbohydrate intake with, and feel good about drinking it. I can also buy it instead of some of the darker ash tray tasting beers my husband drinks. He has been working on a little weight issue and this substitution might be the answer to some of his winter storage problem.
