If you’re reading this review, odds are that you are in a high-risk category for this affliction. Statistics show that regardless of gender, people with computers and internet access are most greatly affected by it. As a result, I feel it is my moral obligation to inform you of a disorder that has touched me, and may affect you someday as well.
I am a Fuzzy Ball Syndrome Survivor.
No, it’s not a “personal” condition. Fuzzy Ball Syndrome occurs when you’ve been using a regular mouse for quite some time without cleaning it, and gradually your mouse becomes less accurate and responsive. One day, you turn it over only to find that dust, lint and other foreign objects are in there, creating a thin layer between the mouse ball and the rolling bars. This thin layer of filth is what’s interfering with the accuracy of the device.
This may not sound like a big deal to most of you, but as an avid gamer, lowered accuracy and responsiveness literally kills me. I can’t count how many times I’ve had a bead on someone with the railgun playing Quake 3 Arena, only to miss because I couldn’t precisely follow my target when they moved. I’ve eaten more than my fair share of “how-dare-you-try-to-snipe-me-from-behind-and-miss” rocket sandwiches because of my horrible fuzzy balls. Even a rigorous and regular cleaning of my balls doesn’t help; eventually the lint and stuff reaccumulates despite my best efforts.
I’ve even tried using different mouse pads trying to get rid of FBS. A while back I bought a pad that cost about $17 because it was supposed to be made out of some brave new material that doesn’t leave fibers on the mouse ball like standard pads. This actually worked for a short while, but unfortunately dust and other airborne particles still accumulated on this pad, and then on the mouse ball as a result. FBS reared its ugly head yet again.
For a long time I would cower in the dark in fear and shame of my fuzzy balls, until I discovered the Micro Innovations Micro Optical 3 Button Mouse. This amazing mouse abandons the antiquated mechanical mouse ball technology in favor of a cutting edge innovation. Instead of the device relying on the motion of the mouse ball to tell it where the cursor should go, the Micro Innovations optical mouse scans the desktop at up to 1500 frames per second to determine the motion of the mouse. Since there is no longer an actual mouse “ball” to pick up lint, fibers, and dust, there is no more Fuzzy Ball Syndrome. I have been freed!
However, there is much more to this optical mouse than the ability to eliminate FBS. Micro Innovations has built an impressive device here. The Micro Optical 3 Button Mouse is easily the most smooth and accurate mouse I have ever used. All other mousing devices feel like crap compared to it. The installation was a snap. Just install the necessary drivers from the included 3.5” floppy, plug in the mouse and you’re set to go.
The shape and contour of the mouse fit my palm almost perfectly. Each of the three buttons click very firmly, unlike some of the more expensive competition, and the scroll wheel is incredibly smooth. Even in the most heated battles, I had no problem scrolling through my arsenal for the proper weapon. Not bad. The design is aesthetically pleasing as well; I like how the red scanning light emanates from the sides of it. It gives my gaming experience kind of like a “red alert” feel.
So, for those of you suffering from FBS in silence, please learn from my experience. Once more I can enjoy my gaming experience without worry. Again I can pick people off with ease no matter how fast they run, quickly and accurately turning them to crimson giblets with even the most precise distance rifle. Thanks to the Micro Innovations Micro Optical 3 Button Mouse I will never again live in fear of having fuzzy balls!
