I will be honest in that I have tried a few bands of creatine and I think they are basically the same. However, I have used other Met-rx products and I think they are pioneers in research and always at the forefront of new developments. Plus, I have found in the large canister, you can get your best value for the dollar with their creatine.
If you have never tried creatine, I would recommend it. Most have found it helps with their strength and stamina, especially in the weight room. It tends to help with the last couple repetitions of a set. So while your 1 rep maximum may not go way up, you probably will notice you can get 10 reps of something you may have only been able to do 7 or 8 of before.
There are many quality essays on how exactly creatine works, so I don't want to bore you with that, plus the scientists can say it better. But I am here to tell you that I do have better workouts when I do use it, and many of my friends have told me the same thing.
One word of warning, as creatine can dehydrate you since it has an effect on water in the muscles. Drink plenty of water. I have heard of a few--not a lot-- of people having diarrhea when they first try creatine. Diarrhea is a symptom of being dehydrated, so if you have this symptom (whether or not you are using creatine) drink a lot of water and you will be fine. Plus, whether or not you use creatine, drinking lots of water is extremely beneficial to one's overall health.
My best results have been taking 5 grams of creatine about an hour before my workout. Some people take it right after, and some take it a few times a day at regular intervals. From what I have read, more than 5 grams a day isn't harmful, but really isn't more beneficial than the 1 five gram dosage. I recommend the hour before, but try different times and see what works best for you.
Oh yeah, some say it is best to take with grape juice or a simple sugar. I have tried that and I have tried it with just water (the creatine is tasteless). I did not notice a difference, but again, experiment and see what works best for you.
