I am not picky about computer mice in general but I needed one for my 17 inch laptop whose touch pad was totally annoying. I didn't know if I should get a full sized mouse or a mini one. I actually didn't know what on earth I should get. I basically took a chance on the Microsoft 6BA-00026 Wireless Mobile Mouse 3000 (Purple) and it worked out well. This mouse is actually perfect for my needs and even has some sophisticated features that my desktop mice don't have.
About the Microsoft 6BA-00026 Wireless Mobile Mouse 3000 (Purple)
This mouse is not a full sized one but it not at all a mini. It is about 3.8 inches long by 2.2 inches wide and 1.6 inches thick. It is purple and black and can be used by both right and left handed people. It can be used on both PCs and Macs and comes with a three year limited parts and labor warranty. The mouse has a scroll wheel, right and left button and an two extra programmable buttons. It also has a magnifying feature that is very simple to access and use. It is an optical mouse so there's no old fashioned ball to worry about on the bottom.
The Microsoft 6BA-00026 Wireless Mobile Mouse 3000works wirelessly. It comes with what looks like a little a memory stick that is inserted into a USB port. After installing 1 AA battery and connecting the receiver, the mouse is ready to go.
This mouse comes with IntelliPoint software but I didn't even have to install it. I simply plugged in the receiver and my computer recognized the mouse and it worked fine and has worked fine since I got it. I never did install the software.
The receiver clips into the back of the mouse and turns the mouse off when not in use. This makes the receiver very easy to find and very hard to lose although I did actually lose it for a few days but retrieved it from the couch cushions and all was well.
One battery will last around six months with fairly heavy use. You can save the battery power by always clipping the receiver into the bottom of the mouse when not in use.
I found that this mouse tracks well and works on almost any surface. I did note that if I got more than a couple of feet away from the computer, the pointer went a little crazy but I never use mice from afar. I tend to use it right on the side of my computer where it works fine for me and saves me tremendous frustration by not having to use the erratic touch pad on my Dell Vostro.
My Experience
As I said, I really didn't know what I was buying. I wanted a mouse that would go where my laptop went and that wasn't wired. I wanted one that fit well in my hand but I didn't want a full sized mouse for spacial reasons. The Microsoft 6BA-00026 Wireless Mobile Mouse 3000 is perfect. I have fairly small hands and it fits wonderfully in my hand and doesn't strain it.
When I got the mouse home, I didn't even bother reading the instruction pamphlet. I put the battery in and plugged in the receiver. I was going to install the software (which I should have done first) but the mouse was quickly recognized by my computer (running Windows Vista) and I could navigate around effortlessly.
I was able to use the magnifying feature and could customize the buttons but haven't. I just need the right and left at this point. The scroll wheel is a great time saver and I find I use it more often than I ever expected to.
The optical mouse slides around easily on my laptop without a mouse pad or on the side of the laptop with or without a mouse pad. It doesn't skip or stop working. There is a green light on the top part of the mouse that lets you know it's ready to go. When the battery gets low, the green light will start to blink red until it is solid read meaning the battery is dead.
Underneath as well, there is red light that stays on until the receiver is snapped into place. This turns off the mouse and saves the battery life. By the way, a battery comes with this mouse. The packaging says it doesn't but, when I got mine, it was in there and I just had to insert it into the battery compartment.
I have used the Microsoft 6BA-00026 Wireless Mobile Mouse 3000 on two different laptops and both easily recognized it and it worked fine. The only thing I can't do is use the mouse more than a couple of feet from the receiver but that is not an issue for me. I use the mousse right next to my laptops.
This is an easy to use, yet customizable mouse that is simply plug and play. I have had absolutely no problems with it in the past four months. The battery still is going strong and I have had no problems navigating.
It's very hard to go back to a touch pad mouse now after using the Microsoft 6BA-00026 Wireless Mobile Mouse 3000. I carry the mouse with my 13 inch laptop when I travel and I plan to use it with my 10.1 inch HP Netbook as well.
I would say my only "complaint" is that the mouse wore away some of the color on my 17 inch laptop's surface as I didn't use a mouse pad but I can't blame the mouse for that. It's the mouseketeer who didn't think ahead and use a thin mouse pad or other protection on her laptop!
Buying Info
I bought my Microsoft 6BA-00026 Wireless Mobile Mouse 3000 Mouse at Kmart. I had no idea what I was getting but it was around $23.00, wireless, and I liked the size and look of it. This mouse can be purchased on and offline at mass market stores and stores that sell computer accessories. It costs $19.99 -$29.99 depending on where you buy it. Conclusion
I am getting a 15.6 inch HP Laptop next week (It's on its way to me.) with Windows 7 on it. I will be eager to see if the Microsoft 6BA-00026 Wireless Mobile Mouse 3000 (Purple) will hook up as effortlessly to that OS as it did with Vista. I certainly hope it does!
This mouse is simple to use, feels good in my hand, and is truly plug and play. I haven't had any issues at all with the mouse on either computer I have used it on. If you want a mouse that you can use far from the receiver, this one won't do. But if you want a wireless optical mouse that will hook up to any computer and work immediately and work well, the Microsoft 6BA-00026 Wireless Mobile Mouse 3000 is a great choice. I'm very happy with mine and I would buy another one if I lost or broke the one I have. I may even buy one for my desktop computer.
It's a very smooth navigating mouse and feels much better in my hand than my larger mouse. Gotta go with 5 stars. For me, just a home networker, this mouse gives me everything I need and even a few things I don't!
