sgdirka's Full Review: Microsoft HD DVD for Xbox 360
This is by far the best electronic investment I have made in a long time, At a whopping 180 dollars it is one of the cheapest HD DVD player on the market. Everything looks amazing on it, and it plays on your Xbox 360! But don't let this fool you, It will play on your computer!!! You plug it into the USB port and if you download the correct drivers it will play with hd dvd software without hdcp support, and that goes for the xbox 360 as well, you do not need a hdcp compatible tv to play these HD DVDs. The only thing that really sucks about it is that it will make your DVDs look so bad whenever you watch one, you will want to break down and weep. But that is probably why it supports the ability to up convert your regular DVDs. And to compare this to the blu ray format, yes blu ray is theoretically a better format. Here is a quick comparison:
blu ray :
200 giga bytes maximum limit.
100 gig bytes maximum tested limit.
HD DVD :
60 giga bytes maximum limit.
45 giga bytes maximum tested limit.
So yeah, blu ray owns, But HD DVD is cheap, and it really looks just as good as blu ray, so at this point there is no point in paying a bunch extra, for the same quality.
The movies I seen on it are King Kong HD DVD, Battle Star Galactica : season 1 HD DVD, Nine inch nails concert HD DVD, and I have up converted numerous regular DVDs with fairly good results.
So basically, this is a definite buy recommended for all who want to please there eyes for a cheap price.
