| yvi_1's Full Review: Microsoft Natural Pro (B61-00002) Keyboard |
I have had my Microsoft Natural Keyboard for about four years now. I have gotten so used to having a split keyboard that I have trouble typing on a regular keyboard.
I do find that people who come and type on my computers have trouble using the split keyboard if they do not know how to touch type. What do I mean by touch type? Well, being able to type without looking at the keyboard. Split keyboard are made for people who learned to type correctly.
I find that the MS Natural Keyboard is in fact very natural to type on. The shape (hump) and split are very much like you would hold your hands comfortably in a natural position.
The keyboard has a sort of palm rest. I find this a comfortable place to rest your wrists/palms when not typing. Also, differently than other keyboards, the MS Natural Keyboard has a lift tab underneath the front of the keyboard. This allows you to raise the front of the keyboard (the part closest to your wrists) so that while typing you can hold your wrists in a straighter position. Holding your wrists straight helps in reducing carpal tunnel syndrome.
I bought another cheaper split keyboard for home about a year ago. I simply couldn't afford the price of the MS Natural Keyboard. It is definitely not as good. While it is split, it doesn't have the hump in the middle and I have to say that the hump goes a long way in reducing stress on your wrists. I could never use such a keyboard at work where I type all day, but it is fine for the little typing I do at home. However, when I do have to type a lot at home, my hands get fatigued much quicker than when using the MS Natural Keyboard at work.
I also like that the keyboard is full-sized and has the arrow keys on the right between the keyboard and keypad. I need ALL the keys to make me happy. Each has its use and I take advantage of it.
My MS Natural Keyboard is getting old and it is showing its age. I find that the keys are harder to press than more modern keyboards. Now I like some feedback from the keyboard but I don't like to press too hard on it. However, I think that the newer MS Natural Keyboards have a better tactile feel to them.
I totally recommend purchasing the MS Natural Keyboard even if you are supporting Microsoft.
