opinionated3's Full Review: Microsoft Intelli Optical (D58-00046) Mouse
My computer at work needed a new mouse since I knocked my old one off my desk one too many times. It was an old two-button ball type mouse and it was dying anyways.
So my boss sent me to our local computer store to look for a replacement. I found a good deal on a Microsoft optical mouse so I decided to pick it up. My boss was happy that I got a good deal on it.
The Microsoft Intellimouse Optical is an USB / PS/2 type mouse and comes with a adapter that changes the standard USB plug to the PS/2 type plug-in. It comes with a 6ft. dark gray soft plastic cord which doesnt give you a whole of options to where you can place the mouse. If you need more cable length, you can always purchase an extension cable to add an additional 6 ft. to the length of the cable.
The mouse is white in color with silver accents with a red translucent bottom. The right and left buttons are located in the usual spots and there is a wheel in the middle. It has two additional buttons located one on each side. These buttons are easily accessible with your thumb and forefinger. The left side button is a extra back button that can be used within a web browser and the right button is an extra forward button. The wheel can be used as a scroll button on web pages to move up and down within the page.
This mouse uses optical technology that replaces the old ball and roller movement with an optical light scanning technology. This optical light scans the surface that you are using it on and determines the pointer position. This eliminates the need for a mouse pad, unless you are using it on a glass or mirrored desk top. The glass or mirrored surface interferes with the optical scanning capability.
This mouse does not require special software to run unless you want to be able to program the buttons to do other things. The mouse includes Microsoft Intellipont software and by using this software you can program each of the buttons to perform a different keystroke command. You can also control other functions of the mouse such as pointer speed and you can also chose to hide the mouse pointer while you are typing. You can also select different mouse pointer themes change the appearance of your mouse pointer.
After using the mouse for a while I can say that I cant see me going back to the old two-button and ball type mouse again on any computer I buy. It is far too easy to use and control this mouse to switch back to the old style mouse.
