periginald's Full Review: Microsoft Xbox 360 Core System White Console
I'm going to be relatively simple here.
All this jibber-jabber about money, games, size, etc., and people taking "sides" with either PS2, Xbox, or GameCube is plainly childish and non-productive.
You have some choices when buying a video game console.
1. DO you want the best graphics?
2. What is your favorite game / kind of game to play?
3. DO you want a huge collection of great games now, or can you deal with them coming out over the course of the year?
First of all, the Xbox is simply the best graphical system out there. Plain and simple. It's MUCH better than the PS2 and GameCube. This fact is irrefutable.
Secondly, there are quality games. You've heard about Halo, DOA3, etc. and there are some pretty bad to average games too. The sports games are excellent, and there is plenty more on the horizon.
Next, you may have a liking towards a particular system, and it's base of software. If you're a Sony fan, you might just want to stay with a PS2 until the next generation of systems come out. If you can afford it, buy both. Each has their merits. I personally like the water-based games on the GameCube, but hate the small controller and child-like feel.
There seems to be this hatred towards Bill Gates and Microsoft. I ask why? They have the huge economic backing to make this a success. Look at Sega.. out of the hardware market. This will never happen with Microsoft. There seems to be a huge committment (whether money-driven or not) to ensure this platform will proliferate. The gamers are the ones that will benefit.
DO you care who outsold who when it comes to the best game system and best game for YOU?
As some reviewers have previously stated, the game system is truly only as good as it's games, and it's future potential. As for now, I think the Xbox has plenty of games to keep us all satisfied for now, and there's a wealth of incredible products looming in the future.
Why don't we see what happens by Xmas 2002. Technology will constantly be leap-frogging, soon we'll have the PS3, and the Xbox 2, etc. That's the kicker.
Overall, I think the Xbox is a quality piece of hardware, and is a blast to play. People seem to be afraid of a new player to the field, but I think it benefits us all in the end. We can also be thankful that it seems Microsoft will NOT drive the competition out of business, and our products can only get better.
