I don't think no one will read all 149 reviews (as of today), so this may be a repeat of what others have said in the past.
I'll just point our a few things that I feel it's important. I too, read many of the review before I got my XBox. Lot of it were helpful, so I hope this will help you make up your decision too.
Price - For $199, you can get a complete game system. There are promotional deal, such as mine, that includes two games. When you factor in that you don't have to buy memory sticks to save your game, XBox become a great value.
Power - I play on a regular tube TV, so I could not really take advantage of the graphic capabilities of the XBox. The extra processing power only give me the reassurance that the game system won't be obsolete soon.
Controller - My system came with the S Controller, and it fits my had well. I can't comment on the regular controller. But like anything else, it takes time to get use to it. The "shock" feedback on the S Controller seem weak, and better left off. Most of the time, it's like an electrical buzz. No comparison to "shock" on the controller for Sony PS2 on my friend's system, where it actually feel like part of the game. I did buy another S Controller (at a different store) and it felt the same. So I know my original was not defective.
Overall, recommended.
