My son's 2007 model Xbox 360 red ringed for the last time a few days before Easter. Given thehours of play that he got out of it, I was not against purchasing a newer, better model of the system. We ordered from Amazon and of course, RAVE reviews for them. They should know that the delivery driver just left the box on the steps, did not even knock- would have been awful had we not been home and it had been stolen. But alas, that did not happen. The RED Special Edition Elite was a beauty- it came with an HDMI cable, head set and wireless controller. It is pretty much the same size as the other Xbox 360 that we have, the power cable box is not as heavy, the elite itself is not as heavy, and it runs MUCH quieter than it's predecessor. The system runs smooth and the graphic intense games run so much better.
As usual though, there is one of those annoying Microsoft hitches. In order to transfer the contents of your existing hard drive to your new one, you have to have a special kit. Now, the kit is free, but you have to order it and it takes a little while to get it. In fact, it has been 2 weeks now since we ordered, and we still do not have it. I will update once we get it and tell how long it took and how complicated it is to do the transfer. Knowing that people who are buying the Elite are likely upgrading they should really have included it. Any information that he stores on the new hard drive will be erased when he does the transfer. That is most annoying. But, it is a good quality product and I am happy with the purchase and would recommend it to those who want to upgrade their existing system, or to those who are looking to buy their first Xbox- it is worth the extra hundred bucks to buy the Elite.
