Love the XBOX 360, must buy the Warranty!!!
Written: Jun 05 '08
Pros:Price, Lots of games, Great features
Cons:Repair, repair, repair, outsourced support
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this product for most people, unless you are high strung or upset easily.
The XBOX 360 Console is one of the best gaming systems ever invented, and in the same breath one of the worst. With the ability to go High Definition, more games than any system of its kind and XBOX Live service, XBOX has proven their worth on the market. These technological advances have pointed the way for a new generation of gaming. This is a brilliant system with a couple of bugs.
The three red light issue has become a world wide XBOX 360 issue. Basically, this is the self diagnostic for the system. Everything sets this off, so normal life of a single console is about 6 months to a year. With the 1 year limited warranty, you can have the console repaired at no cost, sometimes even replaced with a refurbished unit. You will never receive a new console from Microsoft, but knowing that they will repair the console for free as long as it is through no fault of the consumer and the console is in warranty brings some piece of mind. Repairs can take anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 weeks, so for the gaming addict, I suggest a different console. For normal users who like to play games and are ok with sending in the console every couple of months for repair this is the best console. The price is also reflective of the repair issues the console needs.
If you are in he market for a new gaming console, I would definitely recommend the XBOX 360, new with the extended warranty. Microsoft does not repair consoles that are bought used, unless you are willing to pay 100 dollars to put the console in warranty. If the console is in any way altered or tampered, Microsoft will no longer repair the console at any price. Meaning, if you buy a used console that someone put mods on, you had better know how to repair the console yourself.
