Pros: Cheap, quality scans, easy setup, fast, quiet, asthetically pleasing design.
Cons: The auto lamp shut-off doesn't always work and will stay on for days..
The Bottom Line: If you are on a budget and still need a good quality scanner, get this one.

| cycokiller's Full Review: Microtek ScanMaker 3800 with LightLid 35 Flatbed S... |
Until now I have always used an old Mustek 24-bit SCSI scanner which worked fine until the upgrade to XP. I looked around for a couple weeks and noticed the Scanmaker 3800 at OfficeMax for $59.00. I'd heard from others that Microtek scanners were generally good quality scanners so I bought this one since I had a couple web projects that didn't need super-high resolution photos. I have to say, for the small price, I am impressed with this scanner.
For starters, the setup was very simple. The interface software (ScanWizard 5) that comes with it is also quite simple (even in advanced mode) which is nice for the quick web scans that I mostly do with it. The scanning speed seems to be pretty quick also, but coming from the old scanner I had, anything could seem fast. Still, it seems quite speedy. The best part is the scan quality. I was very impressed with the color of the scans, very accurate. And I generally keep TSR's from running on my system to keep the resource usage down, but I must admit, I like the "Copy" button on the front of this scanner.
Anyway, I'm am very happy overall with the purchase and would recommend this scanner to anyone looking for a very cheap, good quality scanner for low to medium resolution scanning.
