The Bottom Line: You couldn't ask for anything more that a DD5.1 system that hooks up to PC and normal home audio equipment (via some different connectors) and still delivers crystal clear sound.
I have been in the market for speakers for about 2-3 months and I have listened to almost every 4-5 point surround speaker system the hooks up to PC's. I was all set on the Klipsch ProMedia4:1... then my brother told me about the MidiLand S4 8200.
I know someone with a $20 set of speakers from MidiLand, and they didnt sound that great, so I approached this system with a little scepticism in my heart. So I went to my closest Best Buy, and found this wonderful set. I popped in three completely different CD's to test their performance with different audio styles. The bass had no distortion at high volumes (Lenny Kravits), the mid's had no backround static (SliPKnoT), and the tweeters would never tweet out (an early Mariah Carey CD).
I had the Klipsch 4:1 system right next to that... and it had far less to offer.
1. No DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1 support. You need a fifth satelite in order to get true 5.1 sound.
2. No DD 5.1 Decoder. Duh...
3. No remote controll. Nothing beats watching DVD's on your computer (i dont have the proper inputs on my TV (otherwise I would have said ...watching movies on your tv)) and having the ability to controll the volume of a Certified 5.1 system.
Now on to the connection. There was no difficulty at all hooking these things up. But since I know a lot about electronics It was easy, but for the heck of it I brought someone over that can't even hook up their own big stereo to see how he fast could get it working. In 10 minutes he had the whole system up (including the decoder) and ready to boom. So I hit the power button on the remote and, nothing happened. Then I said to myself "BATTERIES!!!!!" and it was off the the convenience store we went. When we got back we put it through a variety of tests.
There was the DD 5.1 test-----PASS
Sound quality for gaming-----PASS
Ability to play more than 4 different medias at the same time with to static-----PASS
So we watched movies all day. The next day I wanted to see how loud it could really get before there was sound degradation. I cracked a window in my house before the sound started to have a little noise.
The bottom line is that this system is great. You couldn't ask for anything more that a DD5.1 system that hooks up to PC and normal home audio equipment (via some different connectors) and still delivers crystal clear sound all the way up to ultra high volumes. Well worth the money.
